I am very keen to pursue my Master’s program in Geographic Information System or GIS from John Hopkins. The is renowned for its value based academic programs that offer huge opportunities of personal and professional growth. The myriad modules of the course curricula are essential ingredients that provide students with a strong learning experience. Moreover, the learning platform offered by the university caters to the needs and requirements of diverse populace thus facilitating greater understanding of cross-cultural values and preparing students to meet the challenges of time.

As a foreign student from Abu Dhabi, UAE, the invigorating environment and the academic program of the university not only meet my expectations but it also represents my ideals that would help realize my dreams. I am senior in University of Maryland Baltimore County with a Bachelor’s degree in geography. In the current environment of advancing technology, GIS plays important role in the development of nations which is especially true for UAE where expertise in the area is the need of the hour.

GIS is an important tool for exploiting spatial data infrastructure so as to decentralize the management of data and information. SDI is important resource to define and collect geographic data and metadata of the country and region. The geospatial data is important resource for optimizing use of technology, communication and using it to formulate developmental policies in various areas like human resource, infrastructure, natural resources, education etc.One of the most important uses of GIS is to exploit the geospatial data in emergency situations.

It routes the emergency number to the public safety answering point and locates the emergency spot so that immediate action plans could be activated, ensuring public safety etc. As a resource management and tracking tool, it optimizes dispatch mission to ensure prompt emergency response. GIS based computer solutions access remote data with the help of mobile and in-vehicle mapping and locate desired location. Thus GIS is not only used in formulating public policies and programs but also in police and crime branch in myriad ways that are designed to ensure the public security and reducing crimes.

By bringing GIS expertise to UAE so that we could exploit our geospatial data and metadata for development.My master’s program in GIS would equip me necessary knowledge and skills which could be successfully applied in various areas of interest in UAE like building infrastructure, developing crime analysis database to reduce crime etc. I have also gained relevant experience in the area serving as International Mapping Associates and working on projects using ArcMap, ArcGlobe, ArcSencse, ArcCatalog, Map publisher and Satellite imagery etc.

I am hopeful that my experience would complement my academic program. I therefore strongly believe that the state of the art technology and innovative curricula of the university meet the changing demands of the time and the college is the right choice for pursuing higher academic qualifications. My master’s program in GIS would equip with excellent academic qualifications and skills that could be judiciously exploited for the advancement of my country.(words: 504)
