The veracity of this standpoint is underscored by the fact that sportsmanship and athleticism have become more informed by the pursuit of higher ideals and values than merely as a means to a financial end.

As vast as the number of societies and ethnocultural groups may be in the globe, it is intriguing that every society has society-specific values that are attributed to them and they seek to export. The West and America for instance are known for being liberal and seeking to export values such as economic, political, and social liberalism, civil rights, and liberty. The Oriental is known for its diligence and the African, its strong cultural and conservative values. Because of this, when engaging in global or regional athleticism, an athlete is deemed as having significantly marketed his country and his country’s values upon winning.

Again, the claim that athletes carry values of their training into societies in such a way that the society reflects these values is worthy of credence, since sportsmen and athletes’ training programs are usually guided by values such as discipline and hard work. The part of discipline compels and guides the athlete’s diet, drug behaviour, civilian lifestyle [in light of patriotism], consistency in practicing and maintaining tenacity while in the actual competition. Although the Jamaican marathoner Usain Bolt is seen to have a physical advantage in athletics, it is his lack of tenacity and seriousness in the race that made the American marathoner Tyson Gay defeat him twice on 5 August 2010 on 5 June 2013. Likewise, it is diligence as a value that constrains the athlete to keep training consistently and to stick to a training manual that the instructor sports trainer or manager has prescribed. Similarly, the plausibility of this standpoint is furthered attested to by the fact that the undisciplined or the sluggish seldom win sports contests or athletics because of indiscipline, inadequate practice, and lack of preparations readily co-occur with physical unfitness. Thus, when a sportsman or athlete wins, it is his hard work and discipline [important values] that are acknowledged, in lieu of natural giftedness.     

In light of the above, upon the finalization of the marathon and the rewarding of exemplary performance, people, especially athletes’ compatriots are urged by the head of state or the head of the sports and culture department to take on similar values that pushed athletes to stardom.    

Since the handicapped are solely involved in Paralympics, it is clear that values that are sought therein are inclusion, fairness, and equality. Paralympics emphasize the idea that despite the physical barriers that one may have, all goals are achievable provided that the individual believes in the goal as a possibility and works towards the attainment of the goal.
