Euthanasia Legislation in Belgium - Essay Example

Euthanasia is the process of killing himself/herself to avoid the pain, agony, and sufferings they undergo when ill (Jackson, 2012). It was during the era of Terri Shiva that euthanasia came into the spotlight. Her husband appealed for euthanasia while Terri's family had different allegations. Euthanasia has been legalized in some countries such as Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

By doing so, the rights of an individual will have been respected. Killing oneself is indeed a way of protecting yourself from other forces and hence a defense mechanism, but it is different from mass killing, the law does find it worth approving.

When providing medical care and emotional care, the doctor always gives the patient medicine no matter the gross effects. Putting that into consideration, pain, and agony should be prioritized. Hence our terminally ill children should be given a soft way out from such problems; hence legalizing euthanasia will be the only way out. The medicine given may not help and they may finally die. Therefore, the legalization of euthanasia helps to avoid the wastage of resources when buying medicine and it should be legalized.

Reasons against Euthanasia

The law should forbid Mercy killing. It is unacceptable and taboo for one to kill or to kill themselves. Human life deserves exceptional security and protection hence we should all stand against euthanasia

Family members may have ill intentions to force the patient to commit euthanasia hence unaccepted in society. To protect evil and personal gains euthanasia should be demolished and should not be legalized in the current society.

Thirdly, killing oneself is biblical and religious unaccepted hence it will be an abuse of the existing religion when euthanasia is legalized. The whole world should stand and protect the existing religions.

I would not support euthanasia law since it will cause recklessness in society. People will just be thinking about euthanasia whenever they are ill and most children will be dragged into committing it by their friends and even their relatives for personal gains.

In, conclusion my decision has been made putting into account religious beliefs and the human right to live. We should all value life and be ready to support its existence since it is a blessing to live. Civil rights activists should advocate and reach the world on the importance of life. We should hold hands and eradicate euthanasia.
