Extract of sample "Eco Map for Early Childhood Development"

This paper details an Ecomap for early childhood development. It is relevant for early childhood intervention providers in increasing awareness in the family as well as assessing and planning phases of intervention and evaluating the effectiveness of the service (Katherine M. McCormick). In this paper, a discussion for early childhood development eco-map is presented. Allie is a three-year-old girl diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She is surrounded by family and community members who provide her with informal and formal support.

Judi is her mom while Jodi is her father. She has an elder brother Paul, her maternal and paternal grandparents and a neighbor by the name Kelvin who babysits her. In the map, primary care for Allie is provided by Judi and Jodi. It also shows that Allie spends many of her time with Maw Maw and Paw Paw Theriot. Because they are retired, they spend more time with her taking her to the special clinics and Paw Paw has built her standing frames among other toys. Allie’s maternal grandparents are old and Judi helped them with regular chores.

Allie favorite activities include swimming and horse riding. Doctors also provide physical and clinic-based speech therapy. A social coordinator always interacts with the family and is helping obtain a wheelchair for Allie. The family’s source of desperation comes from Allie’s providers. Judo and Jodi are confused about the augmentative communication device they are about to introduce for her. They report difficulty in trying to talk with the speech language therapist.
