3. Relevant Voluntary and/or Paid Work and Life Experiences s Role/Job of Organisation Brief of your role. xyz Clinical rotationxyzThis was a very important work experience where I learned to work with children suffering from learning disabilities. It made me realize how much potential a is required in a caretaker entrusted with such children. It takes a lot of courage and stamina.MotherI have to take care of my own child who is autistic. This has made me very socially aware of the needs of all children who suffer from autistics.

Learning to take care of my own child has developed a burning passion in me to somehow contribute to caretaking of other such children.5. Current Strengths and Development NeedsPlease specify in what ways you meet the College of Social Work’s Professional Capability Framework (PCF) standards and what additional development you will need to undertake to meet the threshold level required by the completion of your placement (i.e. either at the level of End of First Placement or End of Last Placement) – [Please see below) http://www.tcsw.org.uk/pcf.aspxBy the end of the first placement students should demonstrate effective use of knowledge, skills and commitment to core values in social work in a given setting in predominantly less complex situations, with supervision and support.

They will have demonstrated capacity to work with people and situations where there may not be simple clear-cut solutions.By the end of last placement/ the completion of qualifying programmes newly qualified social workers should have demonstrated the knowledge, skills and values to work with a range of user groups, and the ability to undertake a range of tasks at a foundation level, the capacity to work with more complex situations; they should be able to work more autonomously, whilst recognising that the final decision will still rest with their supervisor; they will seek appropriate support and supervision. 1. PROFESSIONALISM - Identify and behave as a professional social worker, committed to professional development Current strengths: Working with children who have special needs is no easy task.

It requires a lot of tolerance. But, I always manage to stay calm in situations of extreme stress or tension. I stay professional by not letting myself go berserk with stressful emotions.Development needs: I would like to be given the opportunity to work on my communication skills. I believe these skills matter the most in effectively dealing with people who are interested in using our services. I would like to work more on these skills to be able to deal with a diverse line of customers. 2.

VALUES AND ETHICS - Apply social work ethical principles and values to guide professional practice Current strengths:I always respect the importance of patient consent and confidentiality. I have never breached secrecy of patient’s information. I try to act like a confidant to the patient’s family because it is an ethically essential thing to do.Development needs: I would like to further develop my social learning. Usually, when I learn something new and useful, I try to apply it. But, I don’t always model that behaviour myself as well.

I believe that modelling new behaviour is important to make learning more efficient. 3. DIVERSITY - Recognise diversity and apply anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles in practice Current strengths:I always deal every customer just the same regardless of their backgrounds. I understand that diversity is an important aspect of our current day society and I believe that it adds so much colour and value to our society. Development needs: I need to develop more communication skills to be able to fluently converse with customers from diverse backgrounds.

For this purpose, I intend to take Spanish language classes also because a lot of customers have a Hispanic background. 4. RIGHTS, JUSTICE AND ECONOMIC WELLBEING - Advance human rights and promote social justice and economic wellbeing Current strengths:I try to promote social justice and wellbeing by treating all people I come across in the same way. I do not give more importance or time to a person if he/she is well dressed or looks more affluent than others.Development needs: Sometimes, I come under the pressure of work and am not able to satisfactory deal my customers.

I am not able to give them much time. So, I need to work on my time management skills to be able to promote patient wellbeing. 5. KNOWLEDGE - Apply knowledge of social sciences, law and social work practice theory Current strengths:I often use the rational choice theory in my professional life. It is an important social work theory which postulates that people should calculate risks and benefits of every action before executing it. I try to do just the same also.Development needs: I would like to utilise the social learning theory in my work practice.

It promotes this idea that a person should always try to model good behaviour because then, learning is retained forever. 6. CRITICAL REFLECTION AND ANALYSIS - Apply critical reflection and analysis to inform and provide a rationale for professional decision-making Current strengths:I believe that professional decision-making should be evidence-based. I have turned this belief into my current strength. In fact, I think that evidence itself is not enough for much of professional decision-making depends on a person’s personal judgment power to take the right action to deal with a certain kind of challenge.

Development needs: Standing your ground and believing in yourself are two very important behaviours required for good decision-making. I tend to crumble sometimes under challenging situations, but I hope to invest more efforts in this area.7. INTERVENTION AND SKILLS - Use judgement and authority to intervene with individuals, families and communities to promote independence, provide support and prevent harm, neglect and abuse Current strengths:I always use my authority and good judgment to blend in people and comfort them.

I have always believed that social work is about providing the right kind of support and educational information to people who need it the most. Development needs: Sometimes, my tight schedule and work routine does not let me satisfactorily interact with my customers. But, I hope to divide my time in accordance with people’s needs to be able to prevent neglect.8. CONTEXTS AND ORGANISATIONS - Engage with, inform, and adapt to changing contexts that shape practice. Operate effectively within own organisational frameworks and contribute to the development of services and organisations.

Operate effectively within multi-agency and inter-professional settings Current strengths:I am very adaptable and I consider it one of my biggest strengths. No matter what changes are introduced by management at what pace, I act like a chameleon and adapt to them effortlessly. Development needs: Sometimes, optimal performance becomes difficult when changes are resisted by some people and accepted by others. I intend to work in this area by discussing options with the resistant groups and making them compliant with management and changes to ensure smooth flow of work. 9. PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP - Take responsibility for the professional learning and development of others through supervision, mentoring, assessing, research, teaching, leadership and management Current strengths:I take very much interest in mentoring others through constructive criticism.

I believe that negative criticism destroys people. So, I tend to lead by showing direction and avoiding to ridicule or berate someone. I believe the best way to teach and manage people is by rewarding them. Development needs: Sometimes, people are just way too resistant to accept advice. This is when teaching them becomes a challenging task. But, I intend to overcome this problem by modelling good behaviour myself. When I will model it myself, others will see that I am not a hypocrite. Note: Attention is also drawn to the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Social Workers in England (SoPS) (which have been cross-referenced with the PCF), and also to the HCPC Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for students Any additional information relating to these may be included in the box belowAdditional Information.
