Extract of sample "Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks"

The example is given between the Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean students an innocuous gesture of smiling has different meanings in different cultures. While this example may be harmless, we can surmise that people’s interpretation of communication gestures can differ and these differences can lead to conflict. Taking from my experience, our generation is well aware of the tendency of people from different backgrounds to interpret things differently and are taking initiatives on how to bridge such a gap.

In fact, part of our efficacy is cultural aptitude whereby we are encouraged to take classes or learn how other people interpret things. Also, by merely knowing this tendency to miscommunicate, people in my generation are more tolerant of each other especially those who are in the university who embraces diversity and openness.Having these experiences, I am hopeful that in the future, there will be less conflict compared to today because the communication blocks that we have today will be overcome by our efforts to understand each other.
