Topic: ALEXANDRIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT POLICY 0001-AIRPORT CHALLENGE AND PROCEDURES Alexandria International Airport faces security challenges that have become phenomenal globally especially with the escalating cases of terror attacks. The need to develop policies and regulations that enhance airport security has been called for due to the increased number of passengers hence making airports more vulnerable to security threats. Players in the industry have suggested for the development of policies in order to bring sanity in airports that have been exposed (Kirsch & Rockwell, paras.1-3). The aviation industry is a key sector that influences economic growth in the country. It promotes the growth of business activities such as tourism and import and export of goods and services. The primary objective of policy document entails addressing the issues related to security threats in Alexandria International airport in order to improve security (Kirsch & Rockwell, paras.1-3). Security should be as a paramount issue by the management of the airport. The management should play a proactive role in addressing security matters. Cases of accidents should be properly investigated, as the industry regulators require it. These investigations should be carried out in a free and fair manner to build trust of the concerned parties. Alexandria International Airport should liaise with private investigators whose responsibility will be to verify the authenticity of investigative reports (Department of Transport, Pg. 8). The airport needs to invest in the modern state of art security apparatus that will help mitigate the number of accidents and terrorism activities. However, prudence must be applied in purchasing such equipment, and procurement procedures have to be strictly adhered to. Procurement procedures ensure that procuring entities get the value for their money when they purchase commodities. The functionality of the equipment is another vital element that should be put in place to ascertain whether they have been designed to control insecurity. It may also help to determine whether they can counter breaches in security. Their strategy is meant to ensure that the airport is well prepared to contain emerging security breaches in time (Department of Transport, Pg 10). A major issue of concern with the airline industry is on environmental pollution. The industry has been accused of being irresponsible in protecting the environment. Carbon levels released from the industry have been increased hence depleting the ozone layer. The trickle down effect has been an increase in the number of cancer cases caused by the ultra violet rays. Cooperation is needed with other industry players to ensure that Alexandria abides with international environmental policies (Department of Transport, Pg. 11). Clearing of passengers at the airport is a sensitive matter that Alexandria Airport authorities should reevaluate. Proper screening methods should be adopted at every point of entry to prevent passengers from carrying dangerous weapons that can be used to commit criminal acts. It is important the management work hand in hand with law enforcement units in dealing with security cases that may arise. The proposal is aimed at ensuring that the management is well placed to deal with criminal elements and can ask for backup in case they are overwhelmed (Department of Transport, Pg. 17). Expansion of facilities in the airport is very essential in enhancing security in the airport. Through expansion of facilities, operational excellence will be achieved since cases of accidents are reduced, and security threats will be highly monitored. Increasing the number of runways will decrease the number of accidents that are during take-offs and when landings are made. Expanding facilities at Alexandria will ensure that the airport has the capability to handle a huge number of passengers within the port. Further, comfortably without overstretching the security system will be enhanced (Department of Transport, Pg. 20). Procedures It is important that the management of Alexandria ensures it knows the passengers who are on board. Identifying passengers who are suspected to be engaging in illegal activities that may jeopardize the operations at the airport becomes much easier since crew members are conversant with them. Security analysts suggest that airport authorities should come up with an escort program where passengers are with security officials to their point of destination within the airport. In addition, all passengers onboard are positively identified and that all entry procedure has been followed by the travelers (Homeland Security, pg. 8). Flight attendants should ensure that doors have been properly locked to ensure that no unauthorized persons gain access to restricted areas with an airplane. Terrorists are known to use such points to unleash their activities that are at destroying the entire plane. Further, it important that the authorities place use facial recognition systems and fingerprints scanners to prevent persons without permission from gaining access to highly sensitive areas (Homeland Security, pg. 10). Airplanes should be in highly guarded locations. Unauthorized persons should not be allowed to come closer to them because they may be having malicious intentions. The security organ has a role of ensuring that the policy is adhered to. Failure to do so may lead to illegal access where the entrants may interfere with the most sensitive areas of the plane such as the engine. Disasters are likely to happen which may result to loss of lives. It is also effective to install cameras within the airport in order to monitor the movement of passengers in the airport. Analysts also recommend that areas within the airport need to be labeled to prevent jeopardizes and make it possible for response teams to access accident scenes within a short time (Homeland Security, pg. 11). Proper lighting systems should be put around Alexandria International Airport to reduce the number of theft cases around the airport. The management should also purchase a powerful generator to act as a substitute during hydro electric energy outages (Homeland Security, pg.11).The management should invest in security systems that are sophisticated. The systems should be at all entry points and should contain a database of all passengers. Profiles of individual persons should be able to give details of their activities and their country of origin. This will improve security within airports because criminals will discourage them from doing their activities (U.S Department of Transport, Pg 48).
