Comparison of Drag Racing to other Racing My Interest in Motorsports My interest in Motorsport came while I was 7 years even though I did not know much about cars. No game would interest me compared to those that entailed speeding motor vehicles. My interest on the Motorsports is exemplary, thus making me to make a follow up of the Motorsports events. The speeds at which the motorized vehicles run at normally make me have a feeling of the one driving it. I find myself in movement when the motorized vehicles make sharp corners, skidding brakes or even gets in an accident. Whenever I watch the Motorsports I feel like I am the one inside controlling them and, therefore, my body moves in response to the activities. The heightening of the adrenaline that comes with the speeding of the motorized vehicles is the best feeling. I have therefore developed interests in Play Station games that imitate the sport like ‘Need for Speed’. The excitement has also made me have an ever growing passion on movies such as ‘The Transporter’, ‘Need for Speed’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). Kinds of Motorsports that Interest Me I have an interest in both the racing and non racing Motorsport activities. I am more propelled by the speeding effects that come with Motorsport thus making me to enjoy both kinds. I have an interest in automatic car racing, motorcycle racing and motor rallying when it comes to racing type of Motorsport. The non- racing Motorsports events that interest me include drifting, motorcycle trails, tractor pulling, freestyle Motorcross, and regulatory rallies. I have spent several moments in the past years just to get a glimpse of what is happening in these events. Even though I have passion with the Motorsports, I have never developed interest in knowing the participants. The case is different from that of movies since the elevating experience is also more captivating in the latter’s scenario (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). Comparison of Drag Racing to other Racing I have been captivated by the Motorsports, but the level differs when it comes to drag racing. The part of drag racing that interests me most is the fact that the competition is usually between two people at a time. In addition, most of the races are normally more competitive with the parties having a small gap as they go through the finish line. Due to the small difference that is experienced, the drag race employs the use of speed sensing systems and electric timing to record the results. The fact that the race course is normally on a straight short course of approximately a quarter mile in length elevates me more. It enables one to be able to see the whole competition as it happens even though while at the starting point it might be hard to tell the winner. The length of the race course might differ as per the models of the motor vehicles that are to be used. For example, the vehicles that are powered with nitro- methane go through a shorter driving course. The race is normally conducted in pen areas that are free from other vehicles (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). My close association with the drag racing events made me realizes that the race path is referred to as a pass. I also learnt that race is characterized by a burnout from each of the drivers before the start of the race. The burnout is one of the most interesting features as different vehicles have different sounds emitted. It is also done differently by different drivers, thus making the spectator to shout while reacting to the sounds produced. Some of the racing drivers normally go head and don styles that may involve lifting up the fore wheel of their vehicles (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). I am always pleading by the fact that the race is started electronically by a system. My first moments in the events, I used to refer to the system as the ‘traffic lights’. The reason was that the system consisted of a six- light column that looked the same as that of the traffic. The only difference was that the number of the lights with that of traffic having three while the other had six. One day as I was in one of the drag racing events, I found it humorous that the system was referred to as “Christmas tree”. Motorsports Participant or Spectator One day I went to a drag race event that was organized by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). I stood on the sidelines of the pass looking for the participant to support for the occasion. My choice was always based on the type of vehicles that the participants were racing on. Participants with Subari models often had my support while those in Toyota never had my support at all. The reason behind this cannot be explained logically, but I can say that Subaru models have always worked for me. My choice of vehicle won the race that day and I went home in a happy mood even though I didn’t engage in a bet. I hate making bets, since my principles don’t encourage gambling habits. Despite all, I will always be a spectator of a drag race, but never a participant. I enjoy the acts of the drivers, but I have never seen myself taking the risk that is characterized by high speed driving. I did not enjoy seeing the youths who were drunk and almost nude in the public (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). Increasing the Crowd at the Drag Strip In most of the drag races that I attended I realized that the spectators fluctuated as per the seasons. Drag race events that are conducted during the winter normally have a few spectators compared to those conducted in summer. I also realized the more the drag race is advertised, the more the spectators on the drag strip (Crossroads Dragway, 2014). Reference Crossroads Dragway (2014). Crossroads Dragway.
