The Doubting Thomas Painting by Caravaggio - Case Study Example

  In the picture is the absence of a halo that emphasizes corporeality or depicts the risen Christ (Most, 2007). According to Saint John’s Gospel, Thomas had claimed that he needed to see the nail wounds first to believe that the man that had risen from the dead was his master: Jesus. The picture was oil on canvas and the strokes are quite smooth (Most, 2007). The background is dark and empty depicting the lack of belief in Thomas’s heart. However, other men must have been the rest of the disciples that came to witness the reappearance of Jesus in the surrounding of the picture.
