(BBC News) Frank Sinatra was born in 1915 on the 12th of December in New Jersey (Stephen) and was raised as a Roman Catholic (Esquire). Sinatra’s interest in music can be well reflected back on his childhood when he casually started singing at the age of eight for collecting tips in a local nightclub, though he started singing professionally in the 1930’s (48). Sinatra was a big fan of jazz and often listened to the “Big Band” Jazz. Frank knew well how to grasp music by listening through his ears but he failed to read it (Geoffrey). He got his first big break in the year 1935 by singing in a group called the Hoboken Four. Even after this, he still continued to sing in different nightclubs. Sinatra got his first radio play from the rustic cabin club in 1939 in the New York City (World Biography). Sinatra made a demo recording of the song "Our Love" on 18th March 1939 with the band named Frank Mane. The original record was kept in a safe for nearly 60 years by the band leader (Summers, Anthony & Swan). Frank Sinatra began his musical career with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey and thereafter became a successful solo artist in the mid-1940s (Chris). Together with the James band in July, 1939, Frank Sinatra released his first public recorded song. It is popularly known as “From the Bottom of My Heart" (John). His first album was released in 1946 named, “The voice of Frank Sinatra”. Frank’s music was dominating charts by the year 1947. Because of his intricate and melodious voice, he soon became an artist of popular music. As every artist has a career chart, so did Frank Sinatra had. The problems with frank Sinatra lied in his personal affairs, like friendship with the mafia and his interest in women. His interest in women became the cause of his divorce. Almost all of these events, together with frank’s failure to serve in the military compile his decline in his personal, as well as his professional life. Overall, Sinatra's first and the only major downfall in music was in 1951 and it lasted for at most three years (Gale) As already mentioned, Frank Sinatra’s professional career had gone down by the 1950s. His career revived again in the year 1954. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance in the film “From Here to Eternity”. The performance and role in this film was a turnaround in Sinatra's career because it was after several years of criticism and downfall that a new beginning was marked by winning an Oscar which helped Sinatra regain his position as the top recording artist in the world (M.A). During the 1950’s, Sinatra produced a number of songs in accordance with some talented jazz singers like Nelson and Billy May. In the 1960’s he recorded with the musicians of the “big bands” of American Jazz namely Count and Duke. He eventually signed a contract with Capitol Records and released many appraised albums. These include, In the Wee Small Hours, Come Fly with Me and Nice 'n' Easy. Sinatra soon resigned from the Capitol records company in pursue of his own record label which he founded as Reprise Records. In 1965, he recorded hit songs which changed the shape of career. These include "Strangers in the Night" and "My Way". Sinatra eventually retired in the 1971, but this retirement was transient as two years later, he cancelled his own retirement and recorded several albums in the year 1973.
