Literature Review Sorry For Party Rocking by LMFAO is one of the most talked-about pop albums in 2011. The album consists of 10 tracks and each track is different from one another. Tracks like Sorry For Party Rocking, Party Rock Anthem and Champagne Showers stand out in the album. With dark disco rhythms and steel synths, the album appeals to masses. The aesthetics of the album is rhythms, beats and hooks used in all tracks. The capability of driving listeners to emotional characterization is also one of the great aesthetics of the album Since 18th century, people have started recognizing the difference between better and worst taste of popular music, with a corresponding branding of the worst or popular (Shiner, 94-98). The debate about ontology of recorded music or tracks also reveals that the sound engineers and producers are equally important as song writers and singers to elevate a track to the full-fledged music (Gracyk 1996). It is not only the song writers or performers but also other technical department that makes the music fruitful. Critical Evaluation of Two Reviews of a Popular Music Album When you critically evaluate or compare both the reviews on the same album, you can easily come out with a conclusion each reviewer took different kinds of aesthetics to judge the album. This is what we call Aesthetic Contemplation. Listeners don’t need to understand the track to enjoy the song. This is the reason why John Bush rated the album as Good. The review written by Caryn Ganz on www.rollingstone.com looks into rhythms, synths and beats. Caryn just focused on trying to understand the meaning of the song by analyzing the rhythms, beats and synths. This is what theoretical contemplation; you will try to analyze the aesthetics of the song but end up in no feeling the richness of emotional characterization. This is the reason behind Caryn rated the album as not up to the mark. Both these reviews are analyzed by using 3 types of aesthetic perceptions. They are Aesthetic Imagination, Aesthetic Correspondence and Aesthetic Contemplation (Martin Seal). Seal also mentioned the difference between theoretical contemplation and aesthetic contemplation. When you are listening to a pop music in a concert, you just immerse yourself into the music without your notification (Seel 1996b, p. 260ff.). This is aesthetic contemplation. If an album which makes you to immerse into the music like this, that album will surely be a chartbuster. The review written by John Bush is the perfect example for this where as Caryn did not look into Aesthetic contemplation. Theoretical contemplation is something where in you deliberately try to understand the meaning of the song. Definitely, music has a lot to proffer if you really want to enjoy the music without knowing the actual meaning of the music. Normally, when you are listening to music, you will forget all surroundings and thoughtfulness of purpose to immerse yourself into the music (R von Appen, 2007). The melodies, hooks, rhythms and sounds ...Show more
