The term ‘holistic’ in holistic care has been derived from a Greek word meaning total or entire. It can be apparently observed that this particular term i.e. holistic care fundamentally considers mental, physical along with psychological needs of an individual or a patient. This can be justified with reference to the fact that an individual possesses a soul and a mind as a total human body system. Holistic care may generally utilise various healthcare forms, ranging from conventional medication to any substitute therapy for treating patients (Papathanasiou & et. al., 2013). 2) Use A Holistic Approach And Identify The Fundamental, Physical, Psychological And Social Care Requirements For Errol The holistic care approach is regarded as a treatment centre wherein the patients are to be treated as an entire individual. This particular approach is often viewed to be a set of procedures that are related with traditional treatment methods, delivering effective healthcare to the individuals (Papathanasiou & Et al, 2013). The fundamental, physical, psychological along with social care requirements for Errol can be identified through using a holistic approach which is associated with traditional treatment method. These have been discussed in the following discussion. Fundamental Requirement In the fundamental aspect of traditional holistic approach, deliverance of effective healthcare to a patient can be duly considered as one of the decisive constituents in promoting better quality service. The fundamental requirement of traditional based holistic approach demands a better interrelation between the care providers and the ones receiving care (Bamfo & Hagin, 2011). In relation to the case of Errol, the fundamental requirement would be to seek a doctor’s advice, as his health condition degraded daily. He has developed a lot of ill habits in order to get rid of his problems. To get free of the ill habits, Errol requires practicing certain good habits and most vitally leaving drinking habit as well. Physical Requirement The physical care requirements typically refer to the offering of effective healthcare to the patients suffering from any sort of disease. One of the physical requirements which is needed for Errol can be the intake of the medicines, prescribed by the practitioner for the improvement of his health condition. Moreover, Errol must consider the suggestions of the doctor and follow the instructions accordingly in order to enhance his health condition. Specially mentioning, Errol must also develop his eating habits such as intake of nutritious diets and foods. Furthermore, Errol can also adopt alternative treatment method for the development of his health condition (Papathanasiou & et. al., 2013). The nursing care in the traditional holistic approach not only delivers physical care, but also develops the psychological along with the emotional well-being of the individual’s at large (Kyriacos & et. al., 2008). Psychological Requirement The idea of psychological care refers to emotional feelings along with thoughts of the patients. It can be affirmed that the traditional based holistic care approach treats the patients through examining the whole body of the individuals rather than determining the affected parts of their body (Jeffrey, 2003). Errol is in a great need for a traditional based holistic approach as he was suffering from mental instability. Based on the scenario, it can be apparently observed that when Errol returned to his Jamaican birthplace i.e. the city of Duff House, he was unemployed. Moreover, his married life also could not last longer. Due to all these disturbances, he grew up with performing certain ill habits. Based on this specific scenario, the traditional based holistic approach will be best suited method for him in order to develop his psychological along with physical conditions by a certain degree. Social Requirement The aspect of social care generally refers to the ways that the patients understand their experiences of illnesses and the techniques to be applied to cope up with those illnesses (Fraser Health, 2011). Relating to the case of Errol, a lot of negligence can be viewed to be undertaken by the patient himself. After the separation with his wife, he could have engaged in conducting certain other activities, instead of adopting the ill habits such as drinking habit and not caring about his health status. Errol had adopted a weak eating habit, as a result of which, he had to suffer from severe indigestion and resulted to a loss in his weight. Thus, in this situation, the traditional based holistic acre approach will be the best method of treatment for Errol. Through this approach, Errol can improve his psychological conditions along with mitigating all the ill habits that he undertook due to various disturbances that he faced. 3) Identify The Statutory Agencies, Voluntary Agencies And Individual Health And Social Care Practitioners Involved In Providing Holistic Care For Errol The statutory and the voluntary agencies are often viewed to be certain governmental or non- governmental bodies that provide greater aid to the patients suffering from any sort of disease in terms of delivering effective healthcare services to them. In this similar concern, the involvement of these agencies and individual health along with social practitioners in offering holistic care for Errol has been discussed in the following discussion. Statutory Agencies According to a latest survey conducted in the UK, it can be viewed that a major portion of statutory agencies are involved in the improvement of health conditions of the people belonging to the nation (Sloper & et. al., 2011). In this regard, one of the statutory agencies providing holistic care to the individuals is the Care Program Approach (CPA) Model. This model designs a developmental programme for the individuals and emphasizes fulfilling their primary along with secondary health needs and offering greater employment facilities. The major services that provide by the aforesaid statutory agency include better quality health services and greater mental support to the patients. Moreover, the agency also tends to recognise various needs of individuals suffering from various illnesses. This statutory agency basically provides a holistic care approach by developing health status and also improving mental conditions of the individuals. For Errol, this statutory agency might be appropriate in providing holistic care and developing his psychological along with physical conditions at large. It can be affirmed that Errol not only suffered from physical health problems, but his mental status also got hampered due to various ups and downs that he faced in his life. Based on these conditions, the CPA model might become much involved in providing effective holistic care for Errol (Goodwin & Smith, 2010). Voluntary Agencies Voluntary agencies are often regarded as the non-governmental agencies that seek to provide effective holistic care to the patients. In this regard, one of the voluntary agencies named Together for Short Lives might be appropriate for Errol in offering holistic care to him. This agency provides support to the youths and the children, suffering from severe illnesses during their entire life span. According to the case of Errol, it can be viewed that he had lost his residence and suffered from physical along emotional distress. In this regard, Together for Short Lives will provide holistic care to Errol through complying with his basic health requirements and providing a better residential facility to him (Together for Short Lives, 2013). Individual Health Practitioners It can be affirmed that there are several individual health practitioners available for Errol in providing holistic care to him. In this context, Errol can seek greater help or advice from any medical professional concerning the improvement of his health conditions. It can be viewed that his health condition started to decline with the breakdown of his marriage and the drinking habit which he started to follow. In this case, the suggestions prescribed by the individual health professionals would be the best way of curing Errol’s illness and develop his psychological status at large. Social Care Practitioners In the UK, several community based healthcare practitioners can be viewed to provide effective healthcare services to the people. In this regard, The Early Intervention in Chronic Disease (EICD) in the UK provides community health services as a holistic approach in the improvement of individuals’ physical health status. EICD identifies the early stages of the illnesses and provides effective physical health assessment accordingly. In case of Errol, both of these two agencies have a vital role to play as effective healthcare service providers. It has been apparently observed that the statutory agency i.e. CPA model, which approved by the UK government fulfils the healthcare requirements along with providing housing and employment facilities to the individuals (Kingdon & Anamullah, 2005). Moreover, the other voluntary agency which is appropriate for Errol is Together for Short Lives that focuses on enhancing the physical along with the psychological health conditions of the patients (Together for Short Lives, 2011). Thus, it can be affirmed that the combined efforts of both these agencies will certainly facilitate Errol to attain better quality and effective health services. Errol had lost his residential home because of his urge to keep his dog along with him in the hostel. At the same time, he was unemployed and developed ill habit of drinking. In this context, The CPA model will provide Errol with a place to live and opportunity for employment (Gould, 2012). These facilities along with regular health assessment may improve Errol’s condition by a certain degree. In order to determine about how the aforesaid agencies or the individual practitioners will aim to address the specific requirements of Errol, it can be stated that Together for Short Lives will look after the health conditions of Errol during his entire life span and would also restrict him to conduct various sorts of ill habits. Both of these two agencies will develop the health status of Errol simultaneously in a coordinated manner. Errol faced numerous problems in his life because of which his health condition was declining gradually. Due to the break-up of his marriage and loss of employment, he adopted certain ill habits that hampered his health conditions by a greater degree. The agencies will aim to address and comply with the specific requirements of Errol through not only enhancing his physical along with psychological conditions, but also developing his social and emotional well-being (Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, 2012). Apart from the identified statutory along with voluntary agencies, the individual practitioners can also encourage the individuals to become self motivated and develop their health conditions through providing them with valuable advices. It can be affirmed that the individual practitioners that are involved in the provision of holistic care approach create a sense of active participation amid all the individuals in the treatment process, resulting in addressing the specific needs of Errol (Perkins, 2007). Taking into concern the present health status of Errol, a traditional based holistic care approach is much required for him. Errol is in a great need of overall physical, psychological and emotional development of his body and mind. These aspects are often considered to be important in traditional based holistic approach. For this particular reason, Errol must seek greater help from the statutory and the voluntary agencies in order to fulfil his requirements and develop his health conditions. Thus, based on the above discussion, it can be affirmed that the facets or the activities of the aforesaid agencies or the individual practitioners will certainly aim towards addressing the specific needs of Errol by a considerable extent. Based upon the scenario of Errol’s case, it can be affirmed that he is in need of a traditional based holistic care approach. Only this particular approach can develop his health conditions because unlike others, it treats the body, mind and soul of the individuals as a whole. Errol was suffering from physical health disorder along with psychological or emotional disturbances. He needs a place to live and employment source along with the better physical treatment.
