Introduction

In the case of NSCLC patients, receipt of radiotherapy or chemotherapy at the time of interview and significant airflow obstruction was considered to be exclusion criteria (Gore et al., 2000). The participants were identified from the outpatient records and the database of the radiotherapy department. The benefits identified by the authors are not direct in nature as far the participants of the study are concerned. However, the sample population of the study is the representative sample of the larger population of COPD patients and NSCLC patients (Gore et al., 2000). The results of the study expect to identify the gaps in the nursing and social care that the sample population receives. Thus the indirect and longer term benefit addressed by the study is that it would come up research findings which would further aid as background data for advanced research in the area. The authors have clearly mentioned that the study was approved by the Hull and East Riding Research ethics committee. Thus it can be assumed that risks of participation addressed by the study. It has been mentioned in the article that the authors obtained written informed consent from all participants. ...

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEMS AND NURSING STAFF PERFORMANCE
It is essential for nurse managers to assess the performance of clinical nurses, and to manage them effectively and efficiently as a human resource. There are several techniques of performance assessment in organizations, and in health care contexts such as in nursing (Roussel & Swansburg 2006), including the use of a consistent numerical assessment system by managers or qualitative appraisal…
Critical appraisal of the research reports
In the quantitative research, plenty of information was already available and features were classified, counted and statistical models constructed for the study. The qualitative research was subjective and usually related in the participant’s own words and the researcher was not aware of the information he was looking for. The researcher was well aware of what he was searching for in…

Critical appraisal in clinical practice
It is of particular interest to me because various studies have been carried out on pain management and assessment, and I believe that establishing which studies provide the best evidence on care would also assist me in my delivery of health services (Hammer and Collinson, 1999). This paper shall first present the method by which the studies were selected. It shall be followed by the critical…
Critical Appraisal on SS Obesity Meanings
Therefore, study explored the expectations and the beliefs regarding the exigencies and the impacts of bariatric surgery (Bowling, 2009:56-58). The methods included a study population comprised of 30 morbid obese patients. The results were based on three core themes namely: eating behaviour, treatment, and obesity. Critical appraisal is an integral process in the evidenced based practise. The aim…
Research Critical Appraisal
Moreover, the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children is a program which is in place in the Chicago area and evaluating its possible applicability to the greater population may be a future possibility. Before such possibility can be reached, an evaluation of its current applications must first be carried out in order to improve patient outcomes as well as maternal and child care…
CRITICAL APPRAISAL
To maintain data untainted in any way, researchers and interviewers need to create questions in ways that would not affect the outcome through preconception of answers from the interviewees (Smith, Flowers, & Larkin, 2009). Using methods least-likely to affect the interviewees by allowing them to be themselves without necessitating them to change their attitudes and collecting data as soon as…
