Nursing theory is a critical theory that is defined as a set of methodologies that is used to dictate the numerous aspects of the profession of nursing. One of the most prominent theorists that have played a vital role in the nursing field is Florence Nightingale. Nightingale’s work has been sensational as it critically harnessed the growth of modern nursing practice. In addition, she worked to assure that patients under her care were healthy. Her critical thinking of Environmental Theory dramatically revolutionized the nursing methodology in which sanitary conditions for patience became a focal point for all nurses.
Florence Nightingale’s exceptional work proved to be critical as it established hygienic conditions that dramatically enhanced the quality of care given to patients. The Environmental Theory established a solid foundation of nursing care plan. In this particular theory, the role of the nurse was to accommodate the patient by facilitating him or her to rehabilitate from the usual environment. A patient’s surrounding is so critical is due to the fact that it can dramatically affect their health. Some of the key environmental factors that can dictate a patient’s health consist of: fresh air, sanitized water, good food, and effective drainage. Moreover, she emphasized that patients should receive sunlight, which can enhance their health conditions as sun light can be extremely beneficial. If any of these factors are lacking, it can undoubtedly delay the recovery time for the patient. In addition, Nightingale also insisted on providing a safe, quiet, and nurturing environment in which patients can recover. Nightingale’s theory proved to be very patient-oriented as it influenced nurses to assess patient’s needs, document nutrition intake, and understand the patient’s nutrition plan.
