The paper “Obesity in Minority Children” discusses the issue of immigrant children who face the problem of obesity because they are exposed to a different lifestyle. Obesity puts adverse impact on the children who are fat as compared to other children of their age group. There exist some interventions, which nursing professionals can use to deal with the problem of obesity in minority children. Nursing professionals often deal with the cases of obesity in minority children. Interviews with some of the nursing professionals reveal that about 70 percent of the obese children did not use to do any physical exercise and just played video games for entrainment and watched television. Researches have proved that almost 55 percent of the obese children eat junk foods instead of eating fresh vegetables and fruits. The poor diet choice of such children increase the level of fat in the bodies of children making them overweight as compared to other children of their age who take balanced diet daily. Nursing professionals can take some effective steps to deal with the problem of obesity in minority children. Some of the ways, which nurses can use, include creating awareness among children regarding use of fruits and vegetables instead of junk foods, stopping them from taking sugary drinks, promoting the importance of physical exercises among children, and making them adhere to the principles of good body mechanics. It is the role of the nurses to promote healthcare among children in order to prevent them from getting obese. Nurses can make parents aware of the healthy and nutritious diet, which they can give to their children. Nurses can also make parents aware of the necessity of physical exercises for their children. Childhood obesity increases the risk of overweight adults with related chronic diseases. Literature Review Physiological factors Grant et al. (2009) have talked about the replicated association between obesity and the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP).
It has also been discovered that obesity is one of the major causes of death with an estimation of above 100,000 people dying every year due to this disease. These are not the only problems obesity can cause many other problem such as complication in pregnancy and delivery.
However, the determination of whether one is an obese (or not) differs with age and therefore, is measured differently. The problem of obesity has been a major health issue in the county. Being a nursing student in the health care policy class, I feel that this issue should be tackled in a more appropriate way.
Accordingly, even a cursory review of the subject matter reveals the fact that they are a litany of factors that shape familial structure, formative/cognitive development, and academic achievement to a unique and different level with minorities as compared to the majority within the United States.
As compared to other threats of diseases among the Americans children, the prevention and control of childhood obesity are suppose to be left as an undertaking of the children themselves and their parent through guidance of nutritionist and the educators.
The minority groups are usually deprived of many privileges in the society, making them to feel inferior and excluded. Discrimination against certain groups in the society is unethical, and is an indicator of lack of morals among the people who practice
