?Running head: Socialization into Nursing Socialization into Nursing [Institute] Socialization into Nursing Nursing is a profession that requires full time commitment and dedication to mankind. A nurse is someone who by all means provides the patient with full supports and motivation to live a better life. Nursing is a very noble profession and a nurse has a very heavy responsibility on her shoulders. A nurse doesn’t only treat the victims physically, but also take care of their mental health by teaching them how to live in an organized way. Nurses’ responsibilities towards the patients are many. Those involve carrying out treatments, monitoring equipment that may be used in the treatment of the patients, i.e. mechanical ventilators, as well as informing the doctor about the progress or decline of the patient. Apart from the patient, a nurse also has certain responsibly toward the family of the patient by telling them what their family member is going through, what treatment is required, and what precautions could be taken to avoid the illness in future. A nurse does everything possible for the care and betterment of the patient. Besides that, certain nurses are travelling nurses. They travel on airplanes or on ships to render services to the passengers. Some nurses also peruse the career of teaching in universities and share their experience with students wanting to peruse this career. So I think, after being a nurse, you can serve and take care of people in numerous ways. Thesis: I believe that nursing is another name for care and understanding. Further, I would describe theories of Jean Watson's Philosophy of Nursing, which are very close to my theories and thoughts on nursing. Nursing Theorists Jean Watson's Philosophy of Nursing: Carative – The Theory of Human Caring Jean Watson’s theory of human caring is based on 4 theories of which 3 are discussed below. Human: A human is a creation who has every right to be respected, cared, assisted and nourished. He as a whole has every right to lead a healthy and stable life with full potential of exploring and living with dignity. He should be taken care of and taught what’s good for him, as he has certain major responsibilities to fulfill in this world. A human aims to life his life to the fullest, and a nurse’s responsibility towards him is to make him feel better when he is ill, by proper medication, treatment and by guiding him about the right way to live. He deserves to live a safe life, and a nurse should save him from all the bad habits, like tobacco and alcohol, if he is engaged in those dangerous things. Health: Jean Watson has made a huge contribution by adding three definitions of health in WHO. She considers health as a key to live a stable life. Health is something which makes a person survive in society with good physical and mental functioning. She believed that health is a key through which helps a human to do his day to day tasks effectively and fully. She believed that health means lack of illness. Nursing: In her theory, she explained that nursing is another name for care, and is meant to help the sick revive from illness, emphasizing on taking good care of health. Promoting good health and the treatment of illness and sickness is the name for nursing. Personal life philosophy I believe this life is given to every individual to find the right path that leads to God’s will. Relationships, feelings, career are all secondary, but finding the right path, building your faith strong, and feeding your soul with the love of god is primary. Nobody in this world should hold more importance in our life than God as he has blessed us with all we have today. Living a true, caring, selfless life will lead us to the right path which is accepted by God. The decisions I make to take my life further are solely based on whether God would like me do it or not. I don’t make those decisions which would be better for me for a short period of time. But take those which will benefit me through out my life time. I believe that no one is responsible for your happiness but you. What you want to do in life, what you are now, and what you will become, is solely your choice. But people who help us to take our life forward are our parents, siblings, spouses and friends. My parents come in my life after God, as they have brought me into this world and do all that is possible to make my life wonderful. They have surely experienced the world more than I have done. They have met people, travelled places and learned much more than I have in my life. Hence, their guidance and support take plenty of space in my life when it comes to decision making and behaviors. My behavior is solely based on how people treat me as a person. I can be good to people who are good to me, and ignore people who don’t appreciate my worth. It is important to find a place worth appreciation in this world. Caring for people, relationships, job and worship of God can make us happy and make our life worth living. Philosophy of Nursing Nursing I believe that nursing is an occupation which demands full determination for the service of fellow beings. For me, being a nurse is a very noble profession. A nurse doesn’t only cure people, but brings a smile to their faces by positive attitude and an uplifting character. I believe that being a nurse, there is a very big commitment we make to God, to people and to the surrounding. The help and knowledge we give to people helps them to be a better person by health and by soul. A nurse is the right hand of a doctor, and helps him to work and cure illness of victims. Person I believe that a person is sent on earth by God to perform certain duties. It includes worship, exploring the nature and help for mankind. A nurse helps a person to fulfill his responsibilities by taking care of him when he is ill and by protection and care. A nurse fulfills her responsibility only after being kind to people around her and by taking good care of them with sincerity and courage. It is important for a person to be wise, be full of energy and be extremely healthy, as it helps to take his life forward with strength. Through out many generations, a nurse has kept the promise to keep good care of people and make them feel better. For a person to reach his goals and to fulfill his duties in life, it’s important for him to be in a good state of health. And the responsibility of his health comes back to the nurse who ensures full security and betterment to the patient. Health Health is name for a peaceful condition of a man’s mind, body and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain , Health is an important part in a person’s life. In its absence, a person can feel down, worthless, neglected and unhappy. A healthy body is the one, which is free from all disorders and illness and thus can increase a person’s life. I think health also leads us to get a good social life. If makes us more active and we can participate in social activities actively. When a person is physically fit and fine, it reflects on his face. It starts to make a person feel better about him self and increases his self esteem. If you are physically active, so even when you get old, you will feel good and healthy. I believe that a person’s first priority and responsibility towards itself is health as it is the key which leads a person’s to get worthy of living. A person can live in this world with full contentment only if he has a healthy soul and a healthy body. I believe a good mental and physical heath is very important for someone to survive in this world. For me, taking good care of your body and your mind is primary, as it leads us to think and work properly and innovatively. Eating right, sleeping and waking up at the right time serve in the betterment of health. Environment The psychiatry of a person highly depends on the nature of environment to which he belongs. A clean and healthy environment leads to a healthy growth of man, both physically and mentally. Being a nurse, I think it’s important for us to take the first step and educate people to plant more trees, use the bin for discarded material, as it would result in less pollution and contamination of waste. A safe, green and fresh environment leads to a happy life for people living in it. Good environment leads to a healthy body and health. If the air is polluted, a person can face many health problems, like respiratory problems. Sunlight is very healthy for the body, as it helps our body to use vitamin D, but too much of sun light can cause sun burn. Planting sufficient amount of trees in your neighbor hood can provide you with fresh and clean air, healthy to breath. A nurse’s responsibility towards the environment is as great as it is towards people. A proper guidance of nurse in respect to the way we should live in particular place, is very important. Building a good relation with nature, leads to a healthy life. Conclusion I truly believe that nursing is meant for caring, as Watson also presented her theories about it. I completely second her thoughts about nursing that a person should be cured and taught how to take good care of the environment in which he lives in. Therefore, after I become a professional nurse, I would consider myself as a soldier. I would make sure that every individual I know is safe, secure and in good health. I believe after I complete my education, my responsibility would change. I would serve mankind to the fullest and scatter every precaution to people for a better and healthy life. Taking care of people would be my mission. I would not confine my self to just giving them medicines and curing their temporary illness, but would make them aware time by time about different medical conditions and their precautions. Caring for the environment would also be my goal, and I would try my best to engage people to build a better environment for themselves. I believe that the four most important parts of live a good life are, a healthy body, good health, green and fresh environment, a person himself and a nurse. All of these points are interrelated. If a person is living in a good environment, he would have a healthy body, and a nurse can help him to make himself feel better when ever he is ill. So it’s interrelated. A nurse has a lot of responsibilities towards a person and also towards the environment. Through his proper guidance, a person can find relief and security. I believe that caring is what nursing is all about. References Brencick, J. M., & Webster, G. A. (2000). Philosophy of nursing: a new vision for health care. SUNY Press.
