One’s personal belief is to be able to accord genuine patient care through therapeutic communication, as well as in accurately discerning and assessing the patient’s comprehensive needs. This is most crucial in elderly patients or those from other cultural orientations where language could be impaired or not easily comprehensible. Through vital signs, body language, and non-verbal modes of communication, effective and dedicated nurses must discern the most imminent need of the patient that needs to be urgently addressed. Nurses should be cognizant of the fact that patients provide various signs, symptoms, and communication patterns that would help relay accurate diagnosis of their illnesses. As a nurse, one strongly believes that a more comprehensive and holistic approach to patient care must be provided to ensure that patients are accorded with opportunities to improve their health conditions and to live happy, productive and rewarding lives.
