EVALUATION OF DATA An important approach that was used by the that adds so much value to the paper is the fact that the various mechanisms through which data are evaluated with clearly separated in terms of validity and reliability for qualitative and quantitative researches. For the qualitative nursing research that was presented, it is agreed that the use of phenomenological hermeneutical method played an instrumental role in ensuring the validity of the research. This is because through this procedure, the researchers had the opportunity of accessing and interpreting the interview that was undertaken.

What is more, the assessment of the interview was carried through not just a single process but through three major processes namely naive reading, structural analysis and comprehensive understanding (interpreted whole) (Langeland & Sorlie, 2011). This means that at every point in time, the researchers had the opportunity of reexamining the facts they had presented to be double sure of the validity of the study. For the quantitative approach also, it will be agreed that the validity and reliability of the researches were secured and guaranteed by the researchers.

This is because the researcher’s approach to ensuring reliability and validity conformed to the generalized principle of ensuring reproducibility and generalizability of findings (Ryan, Coughlan & Cronin, 2007). Most often than not, researchers set a sample size within a larger population when undertaking primary data collection using quantitative methods. Subsequently, after they have presented results for the sample size, it is expected that the findings will be held as equally valid when applied to the larger population that was not used.

Meanwhile, the researchers had used a pilot study to first assure them of such attributes of reproducibility and generalizability of their findings.ReferencesLangeland, K. & Sorlie, V. (2011). Ethical challenges in nursing emergency practice. Journal of Clinical Nursing, 20, 2064-2070. doi: 10.1111/j.1365-2702.2010.03606. Ryan, F., Coughlan, M. & Cronin, P. (2007).
