Extract of sample "The Nature of Executive Leadership"

By being in the middle of the road means you are neither impoverished in your skills, nor are you an Italian in the way you handle your employees. However, to be able to bring out the best in you, you still require more training, and experience, to move up the scale and become a competent team leader. Your results imply that you need to improve on both strengths in tasks and people skills. My score was 4.6 for people and 5.8 for tasks. The area of intersection of the two lines is authoritarian.

This makes me strong on tasks but weak on people skills. I think I need to encourage my team to participate more in decision-making and implementing ideas. I should also encourage them to be creative while coaching them on new procedures. I can achieve these goals by taking initiative, doing more critical thinking, and learning the art of effective listening (Montana & Charnov, 2008). Taking initiative will involve going beyond my position and picking on skills I can develop further. Working closely with people and sharing ideas is a good start.
