The Obama health care plan is a health care reform in the US and is known as one of the major achievements of President Obama. Obamacare has aided millions of Americans to afford a better quality health insurance, helped reform the health insurance industry and has widened the horizons of American health care rights. It is also an objective of the bill to reduce wasteful spending all over the country in health care department. The bill has been signed as the health care law aiming to improve the entire health care system of the United States by expanding coverage to more Americans as well as protecting the existing insurance policy holders of America.
Obama Administration claims that a huge population of America will be benefitted by this new plan in various ways. According to the administration, insurance companies will not be able to cancel coverage if people get sick, all out of pocket costs shall be covered for proven preventive and screening services such as mammograms and other preventive tests. The plan is to diagnose chronic and potentially serious diseases as early as possible in order to make further treatments more effective.
As a result of this 2010 legislation people with jobs but no health insurance as well as those with preexisting medical conditions will find it easier to gain reliable health care coverage. The government aspires to increase the number of people having access to obamacare services. The Acts within the plan aims to help small scale businesses to get health insurance for their employees. Universal or national healthcare systems are of three types: “national health insurance, national health system, and socialized health insurance” (Niles 299). The United States healthcare system is government funded and is employer-employee based.
Such disparities have arisen due to social and biological factors that affect the people in their lifespan. It has also been noted that this difference exists due to factors such as poverty, no access to healthcare and this mainly affects the racial and ethnic groups leading to poor health outcomes.
However, even though many people, especially the poor view this as fair and welcoming, a chance to receive quality medical care services without digging too deep into their virtually non-existent pockets is not practical. However, insurance companies and medical practitioners feel cheated by this new proposed system.
Contrary to initial practices that saw insurance providers discriminated against individuals with health problems prior to application, Obama care advocates for indiscriminate cover to all persons (Turner). The plan also advocates for compulsory health insurance for all employees paid by their employers.
The American system fares badly compared to nationalized public health systems of Western Europe. Even in terms of overall costs, the American model is more expensive, which is significantly inflated by bureaucracy costs. All comparative evidence points in one direction – that the country would benefit through an overhaul of the healthcare system.
Furthermore, how can one rest easily when at the back of their minds they are quietly calculating their savings, thinking if what they have in their bank accounts is enough for when they or one of their family members get sick or meets with an accident?
