Apparently, management and leadership and are two diverse issues and this has an effect on the way nurses are capable of been productive in their work. Leadership, in the context of continuous quality improvement, has a better chance of delivering success and making it possible for the nurses to continually improve their services (Feldman & Alexander, 2012). For any healthcare facility to be able to benefit from nurse leadership as much as possible, it would be necessary to have the systems that help in tapping these leadership talents.
Leadership in health care involves the social influence in which one nurse enlist the support of other health practitioners in accomplishing common health objectives (Feldman & Alexander, 2012). The leader nurse is responsible for organizing an effective health team so as to achieve desired health goals. The most important common nursing goal involves continuously improving the health care quality; this assists in ensuring adequate patient satisfaction. It is the responsibility of every nurse leader to ensure that all patients get superior health services.
Leadership theories explain the leadership characteristics of the nurses. Trait theory of leadership explains that leadership arises out of the attributes of a person. The traits can involve talent, skills or physical characteristics of individuals (Feldman & Alexander, 2012). For example a nurse with proper communication skills can be made a leader; this is because communication is key when setting and implementing health strategies which ensure patient recovery and satisfaction.
