Côte dIvoire (Ivory Coast High Mortality al Affiliation Côte dIvoire (Ivory Coast High Mortality Introduction The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, also known as the Ivory Coast is a West African nation that shares territorial boundaries with Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia. To the south is its coastal line that is border to the Atlantic Ocean, represented in the form of the larger Gulf of Guinea. Its administrative capital city is Yamoussoukro, while the port-city of Abidjan plays the role of its economic capital. Abidjan is also its biggest city, and the nation’s economic heartland. Having a total surface area of 322,460 sq. km, it is a relatively large nation that enjoys tropical weather along the coast, with the interior north experiencing semi-arid conditions. Cote d’Ivoire is one of the countries with high mortality rates in the world because of factors, such as malaria, diarrheal diseases, high illiteracy rates and poor health care system among others. As such, the country has a poor health statistics that needs to be addressed to achieve the needs and requirements of a healthy population. The paper aims at discussing why the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire is rated, according to 2010 statistical estimates, among the countries with the high mortality. This will be through an in-depth analysis of causal factors, affected populations, most impacted ages and group categories as well as socio-economic, political and environmental factors. Provision of requisite countermeasures will be proposed, with the paper drawing a conclusive analysis of the physical and mental health and well-being of the nation. Cote d’Ivoire: A Statistical Analysis According to UNICEF (2013), the per capita status of the nation is ranked at ‘lower middle’ with a majority percentage of the population being urban dwellers. Statistically, the population portion of the young is placed at an approximate 65% with those aged between the ages of 30 and 70 years comprising an approximated 30%. As of 2007, the percentage population growth rate was at 2.4% with life expectancy rates being placed at 48 years. In terms of national total fertility rates (per woman), it is approximated at (4.5 children per woman), which is relatively low as compared to its neighboring states.
