The Angkor Archaeological Park and It's Dilemma - Essay Example

Dilemma sets in the sense that people have to let the officials enjoy the revenue from tourism without any major developments in the area so long as they feel secure or have adequate security. Another form of the dilemma is in the preservation of the park but it is falling apart due to huge numbers of visitors depleting the water sources, polluting the park and eroding the rocks. However, despite these factors, tourism has to continue so long as there is a flow of money and security, thus the dilemma.

The dilemma is influenced by environmental factors such as degradation due to overcrowding of visitors, pollution, and depletion of water resources as a matter of increased visitors. The revenue received has made people turn a blind eye to environmental degradation in the park. On the cultural front, the Angkor Archaeological Park was set aside for the preservation of culture. However, the area is not well maintained. Furthermore, access to people all over the world translates into the erosion of culture.

The economic aspect is through revenue raised from the selling of tickets to visitors while the political issue influencing the dilemma is that government officials do not conserve the area yet they expect a continued influx of visitors.
