Response to posts December 06, Response to posts Response to Aguda’s Post I concur with your argument that the health care sector is too sensitive to be left in the hands of the private sector. However, don’t you think that increased private control would improve efficiency and effectiveness in the sector? Hayes (2013) argues that government owned industries are vulnerable to political pressure that may undermine efficiency and effectiveness because decisions are made with focus on political interests and transferring the sector from the government may resolve this.

In addition, the private sector responds faster to market needs Transferring control of the sector from the government also means greater public participation in decision making in the sector. Increased control by the private sector while the government retain regulatory role, as is the case of the financing sector, could help in solving the challenges and at the same time ensuring government’s regulations. Healthcare should therefore be a privilege, though you did not take an explicit position on this.

Response to Matthews’s PostYou define rights but do not justify your classification of healthcare as a right because you only your argument only relate health to productivity. Arguing that healthcare is very essential in the society is however sufficient to establish care as a right (Merry, Runciman, and Walton, 2012). The discussion on roles of the government in the healthcare sector is however consistent with the contemporary healthcare environment and the extensive role identify government’s responsibility in the healthcare sector.

Personal experience in care delivery, in which different personnel multiple tests can be conducted and in different facilities, towards diagnosis establishes reliability of your point that quality coordination and complexity of the care system is a significant problem.
