Professionalism in NursingEvery profession has certain codes that dictate how the employees should behave in any given situation. Professionalism in nursing is a complex owing to the worlk-loads that the practitioners handle and the moral obligations that the society requires them to uphold (Akhtar-Danesh et al.., 2013). As an individual practicing nursing, it is imperative to make decisions and take actions that satisfy patients and results in the delivery of the utmost quality of services.

In the case scenario, there are many issues pertaining to professionalism that the Doctor needs to take into account when handling the situation as the essay discusses in details. Changes in modern society have piled pressure on the practitioners to maintain professionalism when administering healthcare services to the patients uphold (Akhtar-Danesh et al., 2013). The current focus on professionalism in nursing revolves around attributes, antecedents, and consequences (Czplinski, Gerard, & McLaughlin, 2014).

In the case of the patient of with the Actinic Keratosis disease, it is ridiculous how the Doctor passes the information to his client. Professionally, he could have been straight forward in breaking the news rather than subjecting the client to learn about it herself. In fact, it is only after the client reads the educative material that she learns that the condition could be life threatening. The Doctor should have acted professionally since his actions casted doubt to the client. Professional code of ethics in nursing dictates that practitioners should not hide any important information to their clients since such actions may result in adverse consequences (Czplinski, Gerard, & McLaughlin, 2014).

For instance, the client can decline to seek medical attention in the same premises citing unprofessional handling of her case. For this reason, the Doctor could have engaged in a direct communication with the patient since health is a serious issue. On the other hand, the Doctor's actions could also imply that he was hiding information from the client. To avoid ethical or moral concerns, healthcare services should entitle patients to full disclosure of their health information with adequate supportive information.

Upholding professionalism not only concerns reactions from the customers but also is also an important implication to the practitioner himself (Akhtar-Danesh et al., 2013). When handling, the patient’s situation about the Actinic Keratosis disease, it would have been imperative for the Doctor to consider implications of his actions. Maybe his actions could have attracted strict actions from the executive management due to the customer's complaints. In such a scenario, a healthcare practitioner should also consider that professionalism concerns security of their jobs or careers (Czplinski, Gerard, & McLaughlin, 2014).

Regardless, it is unprofessional to harm or endanger the life of a patient as with the case of the Doctor hiding relevant information about a precancerous situation (Czplinski, Gerard, & McLaughlin, 2014). The problem arises when the doctor instructs his patient to go through the educative material herself without guidance. However, the precancerous condition is crucial aspect of the patient's health, and such information should come from the Doctor. To handle the situation, it could have been imperative for the Doctor to be frank about the patient's health condition as codes of professionalism dictates.
