A doctorate would put me in good stead when it comes to promotions and professional opportunities outside my area of specialization. However, more importantly, I look forward to improving my analytical, communication, and cognitive-behavioral skills, which are some of the most important professional attributes any nursing graduate should possess. The doctorate will enable me to polish these qualities to the highest possible level.
I consider graduate school to be more than an extra accomplishment to be added to the many achievements I already have. In addition, it is more than a fine polish to my resume. My logic is that graduate school is a devotion that comes with huge responsibilities. A graduate degree in nursing is even more special because nursing practice is a calling; very few are chosen to contribute towards the development of this unique area. Earning a graduate degree has been my ambition for a long time. For the duration I have practiced nursing, I have witnessed a growing demand for research and implementation of improved basic knowledge tool evaluation to understand orientation timelines for nurses providing long-term care. This is intended to positively impact patient-oriented care in this field. I have also noted that long-term care institutions have over-relied on adaptability and experience to enable assessment of nurses’ knowledge in order to guarantee safe practice.
Upon completion of my DNP, I would love to be able to apply the knowledge I have acquired to improve nursing practicing by contributing to the training and support of nursing instructors. This would give me the opportunity to positively influence health care policy and to critique scientific knowledge to uphold quality and better results in long-term care facilities.
