Professional Communication Introduction Nurses are essential professionals in the healthcare sector who play a great part in the wellbeing of patients. Therefore, the more knowledgeable a nurse is, the better the service she or he is likely to offer. They can derive the information they need in various ways but the most convenient is through information technology that has evolved over time. This paper discusses ways in which the nurses can use information technology to exchange information with one another.

Electronic Medical Records Nurses from different hospitals can use electronic medical records to exchange information. Electronic medical records are patients’ health records that are stored in hospital software, for instance, IQcare. These records could be made accessible to the nurses by hospitals by making it possible for nurses to access the records of different hospitals from their hospitals (Naveen, 2013). This would help them to get information on how to deal with certain health conditions effectively.

They do this by evaluating results from previous cases accessed through electronic medical records. Social Media Social medical is the use of social sites to exchange information whereby an individual post some information that is accessible to the other people. Social media has previously been employed by the American Nurses Association and Technology Information Guiding Education Reform as a toolkit to disseminate professional information to nursing students. It emerges as an effective way for nurses to communicate and share medical ideas (Naveen, 2013).

This could be through the use of blogs and Facebook pages. Databases Nurses can utilize a medical database containing information on most common diseases, epidemics, new kinds of treatments and side effects of various medications (Naveen, 2013). This database could be made updatable by the medics through different authentications to prevent accessibility by unauthorized persons. Conclusion Nurses could effectively communicate with each other to exchange information that could help them make the most informed decisions on how to tackle health issues.
