The nursing roles in interdisciplinary patient care are important improving the welfare of the patients and the success of the organization. This means that the roles of the nurses continue increasing to meet the increasing demands required for a general quality improvement. Nurses therefore have to work in harmony irrespective of their job description to ensure that effectiveness of the services is achieved. To achieve the roles, the nurses have to work together to prevent issues such as hospital readmission, falls, mixed skills in patient treatment and medical discrepancies and the problem of understaffing. The organization should ensure that the nurses are able to perform the required roles in a complementary way to improve the outcomes of patient care and quality (Naylor, Pauly & Melichar, 2012).
Nursing just like any other profession requires interdisciplinary committees that guide the conduct of the nurses, the processes involved in handling patients and the treatment offered to the patients. The nursing organization should have several interdisciplinary committees that are important in improving the quality. These committees include the Executive nursing Committee, which is responsible for overall patient treatment, patient excellence committee that ensures that the patients are comfortable in their beds, wards and any other place in the hospital, the medication committee ensuring that all medication offered is safe to the patients. The Nursing research and education team improves the interdisciplinary standards by providing continuous education to the nurses to improve their performance.
