I agree with Regina Canty, that a diagnosis of urinary tract infections requires a detailed medical history of the patient backed with evidence from the objective tests. Symptoms of urinary tract infections include dysuria, lower abdominal fullness or pain, and increased frequency of urination (Buttaro et al., 2013). The urinary tract can be treated effectively using antibiotics such as quinolones. It has been previously suggested that cranberry juice can be used to prevent urinary tract infections. However, research shows that cranberry juice is not an effective remedy for urinary tract infections (Barbosa-Cesnik et al., 2011). A non-pharmacological approach would be to increase the patient’s intake of vitamins and trace elements to boost her immunity against bacterial infections (Welch & Graham, 2012).
