Computer fluency and word processor make it easy to retrieve and access the old files as well as the history of the patients.

Word processor and computer fluency help to create and use aggregated data, prevent errors, and provide better health care records. In addition, computer fluency helps in improving communication between the health care providers which intern improves patient care and better nursing services (Thede & Sewell, 2012). Patients are able to get printed results and staffing and scheduling of doctors and nurses are much easier thus saving time and money. Storing patient data electronically enables the nursing field to have the history of the patients as opposed to the short-lived paper documentation, which has a lot of inconsistencies and irregularities (Canadian Journal of Nursing Informatics, 2012).

Computer fluency is therefore necessary to advance in nursing informatics in order to acquire the skills to enhance effectiveness in work and personal life (Thede & Sewell, 2012). Nurses need to develop new skills in information management in order to enhance positive changes in the health sector with the use of computers and technology (Canadian Journal of Nursing Informatics, 2012). Nursing is one of the most crucial subsectors in the health sector and hence needs to improve substantially. Embracing computer fluency will allow nurses to assess and evaluate their practice, which will intern lead to improved patient care services. To understand and work with clinical systems professionally, nurses need to be computer fluent and possess the necessary information and knowledge (Thede & Sewell, 2012).

Nurses who have computer skill deficiency can learn to use the programs by understanding the theory and adopting innovations and training and gaining access to resources and opportunities for continuing education. My recommendations would be to integrate Nursing Informatics into the curriculum in undergraduate and diploma nursing programs so that all the new nurses can acquire the skills and knowledge. A facility can make sure that all its nurses are all at a minimum level of competency by providing them with the basic nursing informatics education programs for practicing nurses.
