I was very nervous because I thought that heat therapy would not work for me. However, the result was excellent because I got some pain relief after the therapy.

Consequently, the flow of oxygen, as well as nutrients to the muscles, is increased, which in turn contributes to the healing process of the damage that caused the pain (Theodoridis & Krämer, 2009). Further, heat therapy stimulates skin receptors, thus pain signals are transmitted to the brain offering partial pain relief.  According to Ebnezar (2003), heat therapy ensures the relaxation of soft tissues around the spine thus reducing muscle stiffness, hence reducing pain and boosting back flexibility. Heat therapy has minimal side effects unlike other forms of therapies, thus it is a safer choice. The doctor recommended that short duration of heat application on my back, about 15 to 20 minutes. He recommended that I use a hot, damp towel or heating pad on my back whenever I feel pain.  I intend to follow the instruction because it works for me.
