APN Professional Development Plan APN Professional Development Plan Introduction Advance Practise Nurse is referred as a registered nurse with complex decision making skills, clinical competencies and expert knowledge base for extended practice (ANA, 2015). In order to be an APN an individuals should have at least three years experience in the clinical speciality and a masters’ degree. The APN are highly trained in management and diagnosis of common medical problems like chronic illnesses. The nurses provide a variety of services related to healthcare. While providing complex nursing care they work together with healthcare professionals and doctors. The APN development plan involves the practising nurses in America. The development plan will be limited to the register nurses who have acquired masters’ degree. The development focuses on the APN who have completed three years practising as nurses. The development plan is aimed to make sure that APNs are more competed and provide sufficient care to the patients. Scope of practise The scope of APN practise composes of the integrative, technical abilities and cognitive of the registered and qualified nurse to practise safe and ethical acts, protocols, procedures and practical guidelines. In respect to education, an APN must have a post graduate education in the field of nursing or in nursing. For effectiveness in work place the advance practising nurse are equipped with clinical education, skills, scope and knowledge of practise in nursing. The APN clinical practise is based on scientific matters and applicable to secondary, primary and tertiary settings of health care practise. The role of the APN involves the peer education and dimension of patient, clinical leadership and mentorship (Stanley, 2010). In work APN applies an integration of theory, experience and practise together with autonomy in intervention and judgement. The post graduate education is indented to teach the nurse to apply different approaches to manage individual’s or group’s care, make decision and collaborate effectively with the client in order to get the best outcome. The APN has four areas of specialization which a nurse is required to undertake. The specialization includes nurse anaesthetists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives and clinical nurse specialists. The nurse anaesthetists are registered in United States under the certified registered nurse or CRNAs. The nurse midwives are registered under the CNMs certified nurse midwives in United States. Each nurse is allowed to concentrate in a certain speciality in healthcare. The APN roles are regulated and controlled by a specific legislation and professional regulation. The regulation allows for insurance reimbursement, referral and prescribing and admission of privilege given to facilities providing healthcare services. In America, the board which issues licence to the nurses controls the overall positing and roles for each nurse. The licensing board works under the state regulation and make final decision the states in which each nurse is recognised to practise. Before issuing out the licence to the registered nurses, the licensing board indicate the state in which the nurse is supposed to provide health care services. The APN specialises in different field but are required to have a graduate level training and a master’s degree preferred a Master of Science in nursing majoring in the field of specialization (ANA, 2015). Two nursing council in America have suggested that the entry to APN should be increase and nurses to have doctorate degree before being registered to be an APN. The National Council of State Boards and Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nurses suggested that any person should be having a doctorate degree in 2015 in order to be registered and given licence to work as an APN. The proposal was recommended by Anaesthetists council but it is not requiring a compliance of program until 2015. The APN is required to have a licence from the nursing licensing board in order to start operation as an APN. The APN are required to adhere to the nursing ethical code. The council of nurses has power to terminate the licence of the APNs who do not comply with the nursing ethical code. The APN works to ensure high quality health care services to avoid being terminated from providing services (Singapore Nursing Board, 2014). The APN certificate issued need to be renewed in order for a nurse to continue providing services. It is illegal to treat or provide health care services with certificate which has been expired. The nurses are required by the nursing council and states law to renew their certificate as required. The individuals who complete their post graduate level of education are required to register in order to undertake exam to be APN. If one meets the requirement for APN he or she is given chance to undertake the council exam. After passing the exam individuals are given the certificate of APN and the state in which they should provide nursing services (Stanley, 2010). Personal Assessment In the devolvement plan of APN there are weakness and strength involved. The objects in this concern are to become competed nurse. Another objective is to provide favourable healthcare services which certified the patients. Nursing is an important field in medicine or healthcare and nurses should be always willing to provide services with kind heart. The objective is to meet the requirement of the healthcare standards. Another goal is to attain a doctorate degree in order to make sure that in case of implementation of the 2015 suggestion about the entry in APN I will not be left out. There are many weaknesses in the development program. First, the councils have decided to increase the minimum entry into APN to doctorate degree level. Acquiring a doctorate degree takes long to complete and the council decided to implement the amendments by 2015. This means that as from 2015 there will be more educated APN than the existing. This will reduce the market for the old APN. It will be difficulty to get job with new APN having a doctorate degree. The only solution to solve this weakness is to undertake the doctorate degree. Another weakness is the unlimited time. The time spend at workplace is more and is difficulty to have time for further studies. The strengths include having relevant education certificates, and work experience. The work experience makes an individual more competed and builds confidence when dealing with healthcare issues. The education which I posses will enable me to advance and attain a doctorate degree (Barker, 2009). Networking and Marketing Strategies There are different sites and organization which employ APN. The APN needs to network in order to get job from various organization. Not all APN who seek for employment but some operate their own private clinic. One of the sites which advertise and provide employment for APN is the American Nurses Association. The vacancies are advertised at Nursing World website. Description of the requirement is provided and willing applicants apply for the APN position. The successful candidates are employed to provide healthcare services in different hospitals. Health organizations are determined to capture a big number of job seekers and advertise the APN vacancies in different websites. Indeed.com, Health careers network and the College Board are example of the sites in which APN vacancies are advertised. The health care organization which advertise jobs using the health careers network include Seton Healthcare Family, Samaritan Medical Center, SOME, Inc, Broward Health Imperial Point and Dermatology Associates. Health Careers Network is the best place to find the APN job because it provides detailed description of the job opportunity and terms of work. The site also verifies the organization before they advertise in order to avoid scammers. When searching jobs in unfamiliar or new sites an individual can became victim of scam or fraud (DeNicco and Barker, 2012). Curriculum Vitae Nurse Practitioner’s ability The following are the things which am able to do in my career or when serving in the health case system; Liaise with the management staff, physician, community organization, doctors, administrator and customers. Compile patient’s data, track outcome and promote education efforts and quality improvement. Perform other assigned duties by management. Provide cancelling and guidance to patients and family for preparation of future treatment needs. Skills I have the following skills; Three years working experience in chronic disease management A master’s degree in Nursing Bachelor’s degree nursing Experience in working in big organization and taking care patients Accomplishments Acquired a certificate of APN Worked successfully for four years in a big hospital Attained a master’s degree Conclusion APN work in respect to states policies. An APN is given a certificate to show that he or she is a qualified nurse. The APN respects the nursing code of contact when dealing with patients. APN should work to promote health care service and ensure that patients are relieved from pain. The minimum requirement for one to qualify as an APN is a master’s degree. The licensing board makes sure all the people registering have the minimum qualification. The APN certificate should be renewed upon expire in order to authorise the nurse to continue practising. The nursing councils have decided to increase the minimum qualification for APN to doctorate degree as from 2015. In qualifying to be an APN one will have to hold a doctorate degree. The APN should seek employment from recognised and trusted sites to avoid scammers. References ANA (2015). Advance Practice Nurses.
