One of the activities would be to determine the current dietary patterns by having the patient keeping a diary of the food they consume, the time of day they eat and where they have the meals. Immediately after having a diary of the foods taken, setting a weekly goal for weight loss should be created. Encouraging the 42-year old patient to attend support groups for people with weight loss will help increase patient motivation and offer solutions to problems related to dieting (Dudek & Dudek, 2013).

Another set of activities to consider should be to encourage the patient to use internal reward system whenever they accomplish their set goals. Setting a realistic goal with the 42-year old patient should include reducing intake of starchy food and increase the rate of exercise (Dudek & Dudek, 2013). Assisting the client realize the internal and external cues that are associated with eating as well as help them identify motivation for eating creates awareness that proper behavioral modification techniques will help avoid situations that trigger excessive consumption of less nutritious food thus avoiding weight gain.

Set up two nursing diagnoses: a current and a risk. The nursing diagnoses for the patient are improper eating habits and inheritance of genes from their parents Set for each nursing diagnosis an expected outcome (goal). An expected outcome resulting from poor eating habits may result to the patient gaining unnecessary weight. In order to avoid this, the patient should realize the need to have proper balanced diet at all times. It will also increase their level of awareness of foods and activities that contribute to their excessive intake.

Establish five Educational activities to lose weight Setting the right priorities and goals is an important activity to focus on when losing weight. Physical and dietary activity changes lead to achieving long-term weight change. In order to be successful, the patient should select few manageable goals at a time. Self-monitoring is the other educational activity used to check a patient’s behavior in terms of calorie intake, vegetable servings and physical activities undertaken (Dudek & Dudek, 2013).

Monitoring one’s behavior helps one move closer towards a desired direction and produce records for review by a health care provider. Weight affects the self esteem of an individual. Excessive weight evokes negative reactions from the society. Educating patients of the need to watch their weight may guarantee a reduction in weight loss. A patient ought to know that the amount of weight needed to improve their health is much less than the weight they wish to lose. Checking BMI is advisable as well (Dudek & Dudek, 2013).

A variety of menu plans having low calorie are provided to make it easier for patients to lose weight and eat light. Essential components to losing weight Permanent weight loss and keeping does not have an end like diet. Having the right mindset propels the attitude of an individual to have great expectations in the future. Avoiding stress increases the chances of weight loss to most people (Dudek & Dudek, 2013). People have cravings for certain foods that have high calories. Such food is not healthy and results to weight gain.

Patients are advised to have great will power and determination to avoid such cravings in order to maintain the required BMI index as well as have a healthy and manageable weight (Dudek & Dudek, 2013).
