Introduction

There will always be a need for nurses due to the intricacy and unpredictability of sickness and wounds. The reason for this is because nurses are usually more available than doctors on the spot when such emergencies take place. I believe that I can contribute a lot to such a vital profession as I have the necessary personality and skills required by it. Moreover, I can create a positive work environment in the hospital I work in and thus increase positive patient outcomes and quality of care. Nursing is not a ‘piece of cake’ because there are certain factors that a nurse’s personality should include, such as being understanding, not panicking during emergencies, patience and a willingness to help others. I am proud to say that such qualities are a part of my character. I tend to remain calm during urgent circumstances, such as a patient’s sudden lack of breathing. This helps me focus more clearly on the situation in hand and take action at the right time instead of wasting time fretting about the patient’s condition. I am sure such a temperament is essential for a nurse to have. Patience is another quality of mine; sometimes the children of patients or their relatives make a lot of noise and disrupt the tranquility of other patients and hospital staff, causing nurses to ‘lose their cool’ and shout at the kids. ...
