Effectively handling different types of patients is a skill that most nurses lack. I am sure that almost every hospital is bound to have a patient that is always asking for something and, if that patient does not receive what he/she has demanded, makes a huge issue about it. …

Introduction

Such a patient who refuses to settle for anything less is labeled as ‘demanding’ by most nurses. Thus, nurses get frustrated and usually tend to delay going to such a patient by ignoring the patient’s calls for as long as possible and are sometimes rude to the patient. I, on the other hand, am different from such nurses as I have had a very patient and loving personality ever since I was a child. After my experience in providing care for such patients, I have come to realize that this temperament of mine has strengthened; I can keep attending to the demands of such patients calmly, choosing to ignore their unkind remarks by always keeping a smile on my face and making sure that they are never in any kind of discomfort. My success in handling such patients has encouraged me develop my career as a nurse.
This brings me to another fact I have realized about myself throughout my experience so far of taking care of patients; providing care for others gives me immense joy. I have always wanted to help others cope with the factors causing them pain; seeing a patient’s condition improve due to the amount and quality of my nursing is the best gift I could ask for. My understanding nature makes patients want to confide in me and tell me those medical problems that they were hesitating to tell the doctor-this further helps me provide them with better care and so makes me a happier person. ...
