Personal development plan, according to Jackson, is “a structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development” (2001, p.1). Almost all rational persons, belonging to divergent ethno-racial, regional and religious groups and communities, and belonging to different socioeconomic statuses as well as both the genders, draw out some plans in the light of their educational background, technical skills, professional experience and proficiencies, and resources, which turn out to be supportive in respect of determining their goals and making struggle in order to obtain the same. Like all other students, professionals and business personnel, I have also established my personal development plan, which would serve as a guiding star in respect of exercising my abilities towards a specific direction. My areas of interest, strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and action plan have been discussed in the following lines: Areas of Interest: I have developed keen aptitude in understanding the physical and social phenomena existing all around. For this, I have studied biological and social sciences, philosophy, literature and law in order to obtain knowledge about the realities of universal explored by the scientists, philosophers, intellectuals and writers by dint of their hard efforts in divergent fields and disciplines. I have studied the works of distinguished ancient Greek philosopher-scientist Aristotle, renowned ancient playwright Sophocles, medieval era Italian mathematician, biologist, physicist and astrologist Leonardo da Vinci, works produced by English authors including Shakespeare, Milton, Keats, Bronte, Virginia Woolf and others, evolution theory of nineteenth century biologist Charles Darwin and psychoanalytic theory articulated by Sigmund Freud. Moreover, philosophies of twentieth century great thinkers including Sir Bertrand Russell and Khalil Gibran have also captured my attention. In addition, the tremendous achievements made by contemporary era business tycoons including Sir Richard Branson and Bill Gates in the areas of IT and communications have also fascinated me to a great extent. Gates lays stress upon making a comprehensive analysis of one’s abilities as well as gathering information speedily regarding all the changes taking place all around us (1999, p. 2). Consequently, I seek special inclinations towards IT, art, literature, history, management, philosophy and law; all these subjects have been the subjects I had opted in my under graduate and degree programmes. I have obtained my bachelors degree with major in law, history, management and sociology, while elected English literature for my master’s degree. Consequently, I intended to join one or more fields related to these disciplines. Targets & Objectives: Larson had once stated: “Everything in human nature contains a latent capacity for perpetual development. This discovery and no discovery of greater importance has appeared in any age, gives man a new conception of himself, a conception which when applied will necessarily revolutionize the entire sphere of human thought and action” (1912, p.7). Hence, it is mind that controls and regulates all functions and activities of the whole body. Keeping it in view, I plan to become a successful lawyer for the future years to come. In order to convert my dream into reality, I obtained my LL.B degree from the London School of Law. Civil law (C.P.C.) is the field for which I have much interest in. I have got command over Mercantile and Contract Laws during my student life, and I remember all sections of these laws by heart. I also join a reputed law firm situated in London in order to become a law professional. Since everyone has to consult the lawyer while entering into business contracts and corporate ventures, a lawyer can serve the nation and society by rendering his valuable services to ensure the writ of law within a social establishment. However, still I want to improve my qualification in order to learn more and more knowledge in the field of law. Consequently, earning higher degree in law is an important part of my personal development plan. In addition, I have also obtained my master’s degree in literature. The main reason for obtaining the same was my inclination towards reading and writing. After obtaining my degree, I joined a local newspaper as assistant editor in the articles writing section. Since media is a remarkable platform to raise the voice of people as well as to point out the irregularities being practised in various state institutions as well as social sector departments, I want to exercise my abilities and experience to add my share for introducing reforms in my society. Besides, I also intend to perform extraordinary services for the collective uplift of the masses. Hence, I want to become a regular article writer in future to write for an international newspaper or magazine, so that I can communicate my message of progress and peace to all corners of the world. Furthermore, becoming a successful businessman is also a part of my personal development plan. For this purpose, I have not only obtained undergraduate diploma in strategic management, but also studied business law and business management in my bachelors’ courses. Strengths and Weaknesses: Everyone maintains the right to explore himself/herself in such a manner that he can assess and estimate his positive and negative personality traits in order to make a sure headway on the way to accomplishments. While investigating into my personality, it becomes evident that my innovative ideas, creativity, imagination and philosophic thoughtfulness are the part of my strength. My Creator has blessed me with splendid writing capabilities, and I can create literary and philosophical pieces on multiple topics even without prior preparations. I am kind-hearted and compassionate person, and feel happy while sharing the sorrows and joys of even strangers. It is therefore I am most suitable professional in the fields of law, journalism and corporate sector. Similarly, I am such type of person whose loyalties could not be purchased at any cost altogether. In other words, my honesty, integrity, steadfastness and commitment to my cause and work place are also included in the positive points of my personality. By nature, I am hardworking and dedicated person, and strive to work diligently in order to achieve my destination. I strongly believe in making struggle in life, though I also have faith that destiny favours the brave and laborious persons. I also have unabated belief in the very notion that all positive powers of the universe, either directly or indirectly, support the people having positive attitude towards life and the fellow-beings. Byrne (2006, p. 9) also endorses the same notion that maintaining constructive thoughts about the life and the achievement of others earns success and peace for man; while development of the scheme for the ruination of others invites losses and difficulties for the planner at large. “The Metaphysical Law of Human Radiation recognizes that each person is basically a powerful energy source that radiates karma of thoughts and feelings, emotions or “vibes”, if you will. In a philosophical way, we are both living magnets and power sources of human energy--a yin and yang in oriental thinking.” (Taylor, 2011:1). By closely analysing my strengths, I will make every effort my best to not only improve these qualities, but also take advantage of the same by applying it to my professional obligations. I will try to fight for just and noble cause, and will adhere to the uplift of justice and fair play. I will not give priority to mere pecuniary gains; on the contrary, I keep on helping the people at every hour of need. Besides, I would apply my pen and creativity for bringing prosperity, justice and equality in society. I will never humiliate or exploit the poor and downtrodden persons for my personal benefits. On the other hand, collective benefits of my nation and humanity will be the main objective of my life. While elaborating my weaknesses, my preference to work independently and without the supervision of superiors includes one of most prominent drawbacks of my professional activities. Actually I belong to INTJ category, so I always look for working in isolation without the interference of and disturbance from others. According to psychologist-analysts, the individuals belonging to INTJ category “love difficult theoretical challenges, get bored when dealing with mundane routine, value knowledge and efficiency, have no patience with inefficiency and confusion, and have very high standards for performance, which they apply to themselves most strong” (Quoted in personalitypage). Philosophers, writers, scientists and inventors fall in this category. Although this type of people does not allow any external command altogether during work, yet it does not mean that they are not sociable persons. They just remain confined and recluse during creating something; otherwise, they do not escape social gatherings, and are thus like normal people in routine life. Another weakness in my personality is my unpredictable temperament and short-temperedness. Whenever I found any irregularity and lack of discipline at my writing desk or work place, it becomes very hard for me to overcome my anger. However, I just express my anger through words, and do not inflict any harm to others. Another flaw in me is my slowness; as I take more time than other in completion of the tasks. Somehow, since I pay more concentration than others in every project, my getting late is compensated by the quality of my work. Action Plan: The blueprint of my road plan has been divided into long term and short term planning, which is as following: a. Short Term Goals: I want to study more and the reading material related to my profession, so that I can have command over law, writing and literature. I also look for seeking more and more knowledge of culture, IT and science. Moreover, since I have vast knowledge of books, but little knowledge of society, I intend to mix up with the community members and professionals in order to better understand the social establishment all around me. I plan to make my profession as my passion and ambition, against which I cannot make any compromise altogether. b. Long Term Goals: I intend to become an expert, well-reputed and specialist IP lawyer, and a professional writer too in my life, so that I can earn respect and financial security on the one hand, and can be helpful and supportive to the masses on the other. I want to improve my confidence level in order to successfully penetrate into society. In addition, I want to combat with my weaknesses so that I could not be affected by any setbacks in life. I am also eager to establish a law firm that could work under my supervision. I look for encompassing all areas of civil and criminal laws to provide comprehensive assistance to the clients. I am also determined to launch research processes in order to explore new jewels from the deep oceans of knowledge and wisdom. Conclusion: To conclude, it becomes evident that personal development plan maintains imperative significance in its nature and scope, which turns out to be fruitful in determining one’s goals regarding personal and professional life. Since I have special aptitude for reading and writing, and have vast knowledge of multiple disciplines, I want to apply the same for the best interest of society. I want to improve my dexterity in law and writing, as well as determined to learn how to make headway while entering into communication with other members of society. Thus, making improvements in my professional skills and social communication include my top priority in order to become a successful professional for the future years to come.
