A Bachelor’s Degree At AUSB Question 1 In one’s life, making important decisions is a day to day activity. So as to make these decisions, it is important to make proper consultations especially from persons who have gone through these situations. One of the critical decisions that I made is choosing to complete my bachelor’s degree at AUSB. Making a decision to completing one’s education is indeed an achievement in its own accord. In my aspiration to complete a bachelor’s degree at AUSB, I consider it as a major life decision, which I am sure will not deprived of challenges. However, in my life, these experiences shaped my most celebrated accomplishments. First of all being gay in a very strict country, I have not only experienced rejection, but also discrimination from all corners. At this time, I almost gave up on my life and the promises that I had vowed to make. At one time, I believed that my final say belonged to the people around me. My family was however not spared from mounting pressure on me. Deep down, I was more convinced that I would bring my passion back, and fight for what rightfully belonged to me in the society. My major accomplishment in my life is having to undergo rejection, but still have the zeal to keep on living. Though I term my constant doubts on my ability, strengths and capabilities, as my major weakness, I managed to outshine all my dream breakers. Up to this day, I acclaim my strength to handle any obstacle, especially after having maneuvered first hand rejection from my father. Comparing with numerous persons who have lived fewer years than I have, and have not been through a quarter of my challenges, I term this as the greatest accomplishment. I not only survived, but also became a mirror to reflect on, an elucidation of the fact that I stamped change in the lives of many. Question 2 Completion of any task requires willingness and resilience. This is no different for completion of a BA degree in Antioch University. However, it is expected that despite the conditions behind one’s justifications to fail in the set agendas, success remains the ultimate goal. My past has been characterized by situations that motivate me to learn considering the fact that I have been a slow learner in school. Being a slow learner, it was very difficult to be at par with the other learners in my previous school, and I was forced to do extra work so as to catch up with them. Most of the times, I had to join discussion groups, so as to boost my grades in school. This experience will always linger in my memory. If I had not made this initiative, it is apparent that I would not have succeeded in my studies that have made me qualify for a course in this university. I engaged in independent learning, which incorporated use of films to study English. I drew a lot of inspiration from watching these films, as this boosted my understanding of the languages and all aspects taught through the language. With this in mind, I am sure I can handle all the demands and pressures that studying AUSB may bring forth. No material which is too challenging can result to my surrender, and hence, I am optimistic of my success studying at AUSB. Question 3 My educational goal is to attain the highest credentials in my BA course at AUSB University so that I help numerous persons who are gay in my country. With the kind of rejection I faced, I only imagined that that was a mere fraction of what other people are going through throughout the country. This will give me the zeal to formulate habits that will see the completion of educational tasks whilst at the university. I am more than self-assured that I will be a role model to all other gays in the country. My personal goal of education at AUSB is becoming a more creative and innovative person that I am today. According to Antioch University, the mission of the university must see to it that all learners promote operational effectiveness that produces all rounded learners (1). I will, in this case, complete any task assigned to me with a lot of willingness and resilience. However, with the policies set by the University, all learners are expected to draw motivation from all means so as to perform their role in the university. I will not be an exceptional case, once granted the opportunity to study in this university. Question 4 In the few years that I have lived, I have faced numerous hardships ranging from emotional breakdown, financial constraints, and identity crisis amongst others. I term all these hardships as part of what shaped my personality till now. These challenges made me face everything head on. I learnt that I do not fear failure and take it as a solution to all the challenges in my life. I also learnt to take these challenges as part of my normal life and that through failure I am able to succeed. The demise of my dear father gave me a glimpse that life is a passing glance, and that all persons will go through the same route. At first, I lived in denial especially with the thought that we had pending issues with my father on my being gay. In turn, I became more resilient to challenges which I faced in my social and emotional life. My major strength relates to my positive attitude towards life and all it offers. I think positively always, and let go all the negative factors that derail my progress. Positive thinking has actually been the pillar of my success story. However, I strongly feel that I would have made use of my creativity in a better way. More brainstorming would have resulted to creation of more ideas that would make me a more motivated person and have better ideas towards the approaching various issues that I faced in life, such as my rejection moments.
