30 January, Differences between Oracle and SAP: Introduction: SAP and Oracle are commonly employed in businesses in the modern age for software solutions. SAP is meant for worldwide operations, and its solutions optimize the core processes in business when used with a fair licensing model (“SAP solutions”). SAP software solutions are suitable for use in relatively small businesses. As compared to SAP, Oracle can accommodate larger businesses and big sized companies. Both Oracle and SAP are extremely compatible with the growing business needs of the present age, and have their own strengths and weaknesses, that make them suitable for use in different kinds of companies.

This paper discusses the potential differences between Oracle and SAP though analysis of their prime features, usage and functionality. Integration into user’s model: Oracle develops such products that have the capacity to be integrated with any kind of model from any vendor. This enables the vendors to develop the best system through a combination of Oracle products and their own models. One potential drawback of SAP ERP systems in comparison to Oracle is that the customers of SAP vendors are compelled to alter their corporate culture as per the working of SAP software.

Scalability: The enterprise system offered by Oracle can easily account for over 1000 users at one time unlike the SAP ERP system can accommodate between 25 and 1000 users (Muhammadiev). This scalability is the result of huge granularity found in the modules of SAP. The scalability of Oracle is larger than that of SAP. Suitability: The suitability of SAP or Oracle also varies with the abundance of resources in a company. A company that has limited resources and time should prefer SAP products over Oracle.

Oracle suits more to companies that have distinguished values because the competitive advantage that offers helps in the development of a unique system. It is important for the top managers to balance a company’s needs and constraints before choosing the ERP. Miscellaneous characteristics: Solutions provided by Oracle are much more user friendly as compared to those of SAP both in use and cost of implementation. SAP is somewhat difficult to operate and is more like a closed circuit. As compared to SAP, Oracle is much open.

Oracle products are based upon a single database system. Oracle provides its users with many types of interfaces for different applications. Its integration with various databases is very strong. The implementation time of Oracle solutions is very small. They can be applied in weeks (“Oracle”). Conclusion: Despite all the variation in their features, functionality and usage, credibility of neither of the two in providing sound resource planning systems for the enterprise can be denied. The products of Oracle are developed in-house while the SAP solutions are not.

There is mixed response towards usability of SAP among different customers. However, companies in the contemporary age frequently make use of both Oracle and SAP in order to operate efficiently and gain competitive advantage. Both softwares provide their users with core ERP solutions, that facilitate their businesses in many ways. Works cited: Muhammadiev, Alisher. “SAP vs. Oracle.” 2011.
