Case Study 2: Preparing a Career Development Plan Case Study 2: Preparing a Career Development Plan What are some of the possible reasons Scott did not seek or receive advice from her immediate supervisor? Although the case was silent about policies on career development and advancement, it could be presumed that its absence was one of the reasons why Scott did not receive any advice from her immediate supervisor. In addition to this, her own view and perception of her skills, knowledge and abilities focused primarily on gaining a high school education, which precluded seeing opportunities for advancement.

Likewise, despite repeated efforts of applying for openings in the organization through the job bidding system, her applications were rejected. In this regard, her view of personal qualifications, capabilities and competencies prevented her from seeking the advice of her immediate supervisor for fear of rejection. After reviewing the chapter, suggest all possible ways that Scott can prepare herself for career advancement. Since Scott has already started taking accounting courses from an evening adult education program, she could continue preparing for career advancement through seeking appropriate mentorship and guidance in terms of the appropriate courses to take to actually obtain a degree in accountancy.

Scott can likewise seek assistance of the organization she is currently employed with as an invoice clerk to provide career paths for her in terms of employment opportunities and advancement through internship programs. By earmarking higher positions in the organizational hierarchy, Scott could be motivated to work harder and study, at the same time, to ensure that she is effectively trained with skills, knowledge and abilities appropriate for future managerial and leadership positions.
