Extract of sample "Religious Differences in the Society"

Topic: Religious Differences in the SocietyReligion is one of the significant aspects of society that generate a noteworthy difference among groups of people with diverse religious practices. I belong to the Catholic Church that worships on Sundays. This is a belief that was stilled in the followers’ minds and is not likely to change over time. There are many unique features that symbolize Catholicism, such as the Holy Mother Mary, Angels and Saints whom we believe have the capacity to convey our prayers to Jesus and God.

We also believe in the holy sacrament and repentance through the Holy Fathers who have been anointed among the followers to devote their lives for God’s service on earth. The Fathers are not allowed to marry or live with their families. Catholic sisters also do not marry. Some are professionals who serve the society throughout their life time. Being Catholics makes us a unique group in the society where majority are Protestants. They do not believe in the Holy mother of Jesus and in some instances we are traumatized when some of them casually claim that we worship idols.

This is especially based on the rosary that we use when praying. We understand quite well that we pray the same God with the Protestants but many are not convinced of the similarity. Apart from the general Protestant group, there is still further divergence between us and those among them who are Seventh Day Adventists. We are looked down as people with shortfalls as regards worship of God. They believe in salvation on earth while we believe in salvation at the end of life. They also question the credibility of celibacy among Catholic fathers and sisters, with many regarding it as disguise of evil actions.

In spite of the necessity of working together in the society to assist each other in overcoming the bottlenecks towards the success of mankind, social segregation is often a major hindrance towards establishing strong relationship between Catholics and Protestants, especially the Seventh day Adventists. They consider their interaction with Catholics in social groups as unnecessary since it can blemish their followers’ faith. In most groups where people share goals in the society that I live in, members are either Catholic or protestant.

This also includes significant social issues such as wedding or burial ceremonies. This aspect of religiosity has been cascaded to the extended family level such that Catholic and protestant families do not team up for a common course. Generally, the Catholics in my society often feel sidelined by the Protestants.
