Poverty is seen to be strongly connected with academic achievement in America. This paper will examine the effect of socio-economic status on academic achievement and literacy. Studies prove that the most important period for kids to build up foundational capabilities on which all succeeding development builds is the first 5 years of life. The most remarkable advancement in linguistic and cognitive achievements is developed during this period. (Diener and Wright, 2003) Emotional, communal, dictatorial and ethical dimensions are also entangled with these early developmental years. These all are significant areas that will necessitate focused attention to build up correctly. Children of poor families are more prone to have troubles in gaining literacy than children of middle or upper class families. Sadly, America possesses extremely high rates of upbringing poverty. In addition, it becomes nearly impossible for the poor families to come out of poverty after they get stuck in it. (Pruett and Jackson, 2006) Several studies have shown strong association between family poverty and young individuals’ literacy, health and conducts. Income of family strongly affects children’s aptitude and attainment and leaves an impact on their long-standing emotional outcomes. There are many countries around the world where English is not spoken or considered to be an official language, however, it is imperative and important to know the same because knowing the language helps an individual to open up to a whole new culture, a great deal of literature, as well as meet new people and interact with them.
Through this first experience, I came to realize how important it was to obtain a decent education. Because of this, I was no longer hesitant to go to school, unlike my other siblings. The first few years in elementary schooling were in our native language or what others call euphemistically as the mother tongue.
An average person is armed just with the basic artistic skills, and is unable to express visually through graphic art what he or she can with words. Moreover, it is difficult for an average person to combine ‘words and graphics’ for the depiction of a message for an intended audience.
The most inspiring aspect about becoming a professional in finance is the degree of versatility that comes along this career. Unlike other careers that may be limited in progression and in industry, in finance the sky may not be the limit, but the limit is as high as one is prepared to achieve.
In other words, cultural literacy is seen as the ability to converse fluently in the figurative language (such as idioms, allusions, proverbs and informal content) which creates and constitutes a culture.
