This paper will analyze the strategies that can be formulated and implemented by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) in Kava to strengthen its presence. As Force-Field Analysis focuses on “understanding the factors that would drive strategies and those that would hinder them”, CBTL can analyze both the driving and hindering factors to come up with an optimal plan. In the case, the decision making process was initiated by Nik and Alex to tap the opportunities or the driving forces that was available in the island of Kava. The first strategy that can be driven by various factors is the launching of a pan island Newspaper. Good decision-making starts from the right place (Paul and Elder). This initiative can exhibit how CBTL can launch any new initiative in an entirely new setting and importantly can exhibit its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the citizens of the Kava, as newspapers are key mediums of social activism. As these factors will act has a key driving force, the company can launch the next set of actions, which includes setting up a printing office in Kava. The South Pacific region is an emerging economy. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the issues, business problems, environmental concerns, and stakeholder’s perspective associated with an expansion into the country of Kava.
These two end state scenario can be beneficial to CBTL and its business and so they can carry out all the steps needed to actualize this venture. The local government as well as the local people could also support this initiative of CBTL as it provides them with an avenue for social activism.
In order to learn about the island the company sent one of their employees Nik to perform an evaluation of the island. The firm already had small presence in the island with two employees, Alex and Chris, located in Kava. Alex will assist Nik in his assessment of Kava.
The small size of Kava makes it a perfect testing ground for Capital One. The firm can advantage of its market test in Kava to study the culture of the South Pacific region. The plans of expanding into Kava would be much simpler if there weren’t a serious of issues and business risks associated with Kava.
Only if the organization sees certain positives and how those positives could aid them in entering and developing their business, they will make the move. However, if there are challenges, the organization need not become skeptical and avoid the entry. Instead, if the organization comes up with strategies to overcome those challenges, they can very well make that entry.
