However, whatever the kind, all mediators use either general tactics or contingent tactics for conflict analysis and resolution. General tactics are used to collect general data about the conflict by getting into the conflict, analyzing it, listening to the parties’ perspectives, designing mediation plan, understanding interests, motivating parties to communicate, and drafting agreements. Conflict is inevitable in any human interaction. People face conflicts in their personal, as well as professional lives. Conflict management is an art that needs to be learnt if one desires to succeed in the endeavours of life.
Human beings are social by nature and tend to be affected by the nature of the relationships that they forge with people surrounding them. In the various associations formed, groups are created and people belonging to a specific group behave in a particular way towards members of their own group, and in a different manner with other members from other groups.
A conflict is an active disagreement between people with different opinions, values or interests (Kleynhans, 2007). Conflict can be on individual basis or group conflict where a group of people are disagreeing on something. The leaders need to have good interpersonal skills in order to be able to resolve conflicts as discussed below.
Mediation broadly refers to the process where a third party aids two individuals or a group of individuals reach a resolution. In recent decades specific Meditation Models have emerged. Mediation Models are organized collections of specific methodologies that provide a systematic approach to conduct mediation.
Conflict is a state of unresolved differences within an individual, between individuals, between an individual and a group, or between groups. Conflict is neutral; therefore, it is neither bad nor good. The way one responds to conflict is important, as this will determine if they will turn it into a positive factor.
There have been several attempts at resolution in the conflict, both military and diplomatic, by the international community ever since the beginning of the conflict. The international community has taken a rather pertinent interest in providing conflict resolution on various key issues of the ongoing dispute between Israelis and Palestinians, including borders, security, reciprocal recognition, land rights, water rights, control of Jerusalem, and legalities relating to refugees.
When different people are brought together in a team, invariably, people will have a different mix of beliefs, lifestyles, values, ethnic backgrounds, and goals that may interact with one another to lead to inevitable conflicts of different categories. With the remarkable changes and the economic impact that this area is going through, in the healthcare delivery systems, it is expected that there would be heightened professional values and competition for resources.
