Organizational Development in HRD The Fourwinds Marina, located Lake Monroe in Bloomington, Indiana, is considered as one of the most extensive and complete Marinas of its type in the United States. The main focus area of Fourwinds Marina is to offer the residents of Indiana an apt place to store their boats, as well as rent and sell their boats all round the year at an profitable and reasonable cost. However, the management at Marina is going through tough time, with six different managers being appointed and terminated in the last six years.

The main issue being, most of the managers lacked work experience regarding the Marina business, as they worked in other domains. The last manager to be terminated, Leon McLaughlin had 15 years of Marine experience, but he could not deliver results. Although, he did his best, he was handicapped by the lack of funds, which were originally promised, leading to underperformance. The main task before the new manger, Jack Keltner, is how to successfully run Fourwinds Marina through new strategies, even while generating funds.

Strengths Lake Monroe is a happening place in Indiana with all safeguards and opportunities FourWinds has been providing optimum services for the last few years There are other value added services, which would complement it Jack Keltner’s previous good performance in Marina’s accounting department Weakness Managers are being changed in a short-term manner, without long-term perspective Thus, there is no optimum continuity of the various organizational processes, initiated by each one of them Charges for anchoring boats are also increasing, leading to higher operational costs Opportunities Indianapolis metropolitan area’s population is over one million, and they have some $3.

5 billion dollars to spend annually. The per capita effective buying income is $4,264 as contrasted with $3,779 for the United States as a whole, with almost sizable having annual income of $10,000 and above Many new industries and establishment are about to be started, bringing in more prospective customers for Marina. The city is at the intersection of many interstate highway systems Threats The powers especially the financial powers of the managers including Keltner could be clipped They have to depend on the high command to take each decision.

It is pricey to move the boat to the land It is more expensive to remove a boat from the water than to allow it to remain moored From the above carried out SWOT of Fourwinds Marina, it is clear that it has optimal strengths and also good opportunities to grow further. Its strengths like wide range of services and the previous optimal role played by Keltner will aid it a lot. Speaking about opportunities, Indiana is turning into a productive place do business, and that augurs well for Fourwinds Marina.

However, there are some weaknesses because of the lack of consistency in the management level. With managers being changed quite often, there is lack of apt flow. c. What is the marina’s strategy?
