Also referred to as gustation the sense of taste involves a complex interaction between receptors on the individual’s tongue and mental perception. As the saliva in one’s mouth breaks down food, the taste sense receptors in the tongue relay messages to the neurological aspects of the nervous system. As one might expect there are a broad array of receptors in this region, which has led some researchers to argue that there is actually more than one sense of taste; instead they contend taste constitutes a variety of distinguishable characteristics. For instance, of the most readily distinguishable receptors function to identify tastes for sweet, salty, sour, and bitter; another receptor, referred to as the umami receptor, detects the amino acid glutamate (‘Umani Taste Receptor’). There are a number of notable elements and features related to one’s sense of taste. One of the most interesting is that while all individuals are born with a sense of taste, like fingerprints all individuals taste receptors are slightly different. It’s also true that as individuals age their taste receptors will correspondingly change. At an early age taste buds function around the entire individual’s mouth, but as individuals age these surrounding taste buds shrink so that they are ultimately limited to predominantly the tongue (‘Taste’). ...

Paradoxically, this development may have been perceived as ridiculous only two decades ago. Majority of biologists at that time perceived sexual selection via mate choice to be Darwin’s least appealing idea, if not utterly wrong. At that time, any “darwinization” of human sciences would have been grounded in natural selection theory, which does not possess a significant impact on human, sexual, social, and cultural behaviour.
In sociology, the responses of people to their environment are likely to be interpreted differently under the influence of specific rules and conditions. The key characteristic of the explanations of the role and the behaviour of people as members of the society is the following one: all the relevant theories emphasize on the dependency of human thought on media.
For some pople, the condition can be temporary while it can be permanent for some. The condition itself can also vary in its effect and scope. There are cases wherein the patient suffers only a limited form of anosmia. There are some smells that the person can't perceive in their senses, it is suspected that the cause may be genetically pre-disposed.
In this essay I use empirical data to explore, with reference to the works of Piere Bourdieu's Distinction: A social critique of the Judgement of Taste (1984) and Georg Simmel Philosophical Culture (1911), why in our postmodern society it does makes sense to discuss fashion in terms of good and bad taste.

The focal point to be addressed here deals primarily on whether or not trusting the senses leads to the truth. Vague as it is but a sound investigation must start on philosophers who had taken such interests in the senses and their relationship to the truth.

If beauty is truth, then it may dare to be grotesque too, for truth may be harsh or horrific.
