of Lecturer 25 April MLA ARGUMENT RESEARCH PAPER ON CIVIL WAR IN LIBERIA The Civil War in Liberia is a very great world issue that had its effects while it lasted. The atmosphere in Liberia at that time was chaotic and the decisions that the America Liberians made at that time is something that I strongly oppose. The America Liberians’ oppression of the indigenous population of Liberia is a very serious sin against humanity. The indigenous populations that were oppressed by the America Liberians at that time were mostly people that were innocent of any wrongdoing.

Thus, their attack by the America Liberians is totally uncalled for. Adebajo has this to write about the America-Liberians, “This coastal settler elite established a corrupt, nepotistic system that excluded and oppressed the sixteen main “up-country” indigenous ethnic groups: the Bassa, Belle, Dei, Gbandi, Gio, Gola, Grebo, Kissi, Kpelle, Krahn, Kru, Loma, Mandingo, Mano, Mende, and Vai” (21). The America-Liberians “waged several wars against the indigenous peoples of Liberia whom they overran and subjugated as menials.

” (Bassey & Oshita 111). The America Liberians are actually the force behind the series of unrest in Liberia as the injustice in the land forced Liberians to react. This is not as if the Liberians were right for staging a civil war in the first place, but the fact remains that the America Liberians should not have targeted innocent people. “Even though Liberia was established because of the ‘love of liberty’, the history of this country has been characterized by different and ugly experiences: political repression, lack of rule of law, social exclusion and deprivation, economic mismanagement, and poor governance.

All of these factors conspired to produce the 14-year armed conflict in Liberia (Besada 144).Two wrongs can never make a right and the America Liberians were absolutely wrong for oppressing the innocent indigenous population of Liberia. Thus, they should be condemned for this dastardly act. The oppression by the America Liberians in the early years of the American Civil War towards the innocent indigenous population of Liberia should be condemned by the United Nations. The America Liberians that perpetrated this evil act should be tried at the United Nations International Crime Court in Hague to face hearings on the oppression that was meted on the innocent indigenous populations in Liberia.

This would go a long way in healing the wound that was caused by the oppression of these indigenous populations by the America Liberians. This is not to say that the Liberians that took part in the war were right for distorting the peace of their fellow Liberians, but the fact remains that the America Liberians should not opposed their fellow Liberians as the case may be.
