There many methods to install a video camera in a car that come with a wide range of options and costs. The option will depend on whether one requires recording activities occurring outside the car or the ones taking place inside the car. The main effectiveness of this system can be seen as follows: Decreasing or removing illegal activity to the advantage of personal property. Monitoring teenagers in the absence of their parents. Monitoring activities in and around the car while on the move. Increased security for passengers. Recording collisions and other mishaps as well as estimating reality from fraudulent claims, faked injuries and staged accidents. Acts as a measure to avoid violence. Recorded content may be utilized as judicial evidence. Supplements or arguments separately of existing safety methods. Reduction of liability in the event of misappropriate claims. “The laws of supply and demand are best evident in a competitive market. Competition causes businesses to try new ways to attract customers by lowering prices, improving quality and developing new products and services” (Competition in the Market, n.d.). External cameras have redefined safety dynamics, law enforcement as well as protection of cars. State of the art modern cameras with affordable price range has led to extensive use and deployment of this system. The cameras have proved to be effective for managing the whole safety needs of private and public property owners. “Modern invasion of privacy laws essentially protect people in four different ways: intrusion of solitude, public disclosure of private facts, false light, and appropriation” (Pollick, 2003). 2. Potential Risks: laws, legislature, public reluctance to accept product added to their vehicles, lobbiest, investor concerns. External cameras that can be installed in the exterior parts of rental cars and eventually private cars are affected by various laws relating to private and public photography. The laws that associate to any other kinds of cameras are also applicable to this kind of camera. There are many legal issues to be addressed depending on local laws and the methods used by the enforcing bodies. Various legal issues need to be considered while using such cameras and the laws concerning how cameras can be placed and what proof is essential to prosecute a driver, vary significantly in different legal system. “Following 9/11 it certainly seems that there is no rush to legislate for the use of security cameras - either in public, such as your office, or in private, such as your home. Indeed, the one and only time congress has considered legislating for security camera use, the legislation was stalled and eventually went away” (Security Camera Law: Legal Issues, n.d.). This particular type of system is planned to capture the vehicles’ movements with the intention of protecting the rental car company and the driver in the event of a road accident.
