Statistics show that almost 64% of the high school students say that they have been drunk at least once. Among youth between the ages 12 to 17, 77% (Spear, pp. 71-81) say that they have had at least one serious problem related to drinking in the past year. The teenagers who engage in this problem suffer in various aspects of their life. Teenagers having drinking problems suffer in their education. They tend to skip school and their classes and their performance level starts going down as the problem increases. This is because their attention span towards anything goes down and hence their performance decreases. Another problem that arises is that of drunk driving and the number of accidents and deaths caused by it. Statistics show that underage drinking and alcohol use is more likely to kill youngsters compared to illegal drugs. Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of deaths of youth between the ages of 15 and 20. The rate of these accidents is much more for teenagers between ages of 16 to 20 rather than 20 years and above (Spear, pp. 71-81). Another problem is that of suicide. After depression and stress, alcohol abuse is the third factor causing young people to commit suicide for children between 14 and 25. Sexual assaults and rapes are also becoming increasingly common as an effect of alcohol abuse. ...

Alcohol increases the hazard of serious disease like heart disease, liver infections, reproductive problems and memory loss. It is affirmed in journal of the American medical association, the death rate of Alcoholic women is relatively higher than Alcoholic men.
The addressing of health issues in a community is paramount to the overall stability and wellbeing of that community. In the recent years, alcoholism and alcohol abuse have also been termed as medical cases, since they result in complicated health issues and medical emergencies.
The paper demonstrates the use of drugs among teenagers as a pop culture and glamorization of their lifestyle. Since it is shown widely in movies and hip hop culture music, teenagers observe it as a fashion trend. Peer pressure and influence also is another reason that leads to drug use among teenagers. Teenagers also think that marijuana is harmless and hence they can use it without fear.
Moreover, long-term, escalating levels of alcohol intake on a habitual basis can predispose to tolerance as well as an intense adaptation of the body to a conditioned state induced by alcohol that cessation of use can lead to a withdrawal syndrome that is usually marked by insomnia, hyperactivity of the autonomic nervous system, and feelings of intense anxiety (Room, Babor, and Rehm, 2005).
This paper, consequently, will be exploring the misuse of alcohol among adolescents by, primarily, describing the patterns of teenage alcohol consumption, following which a critical review of current literature will be discussed. Several theories relating to the aetiology of alcohol use will then be analysed, through which an attempt will be made to identify the major reasons why so many adolescents choose to drink.
Others, however, will continue to drink, and develop a dependency, often causing significant harm to both themselves and others. Although it is difficult to know which teenagers are at risk of abusing alcohol, many different reasons and/or causes have been researched, which include factors such as gender, social status, cultural and/or ethnic background, and economic explanations.
Adolescent alcohol misuse in England has become a major social issue. There are various causes for alcohol misuse among adolescents with media advertising playing a major role in the misuse.
