Last and First and number 02 June Sport To begin with, I reckon there is absolutely nothing wrong in dubbing the sports teams with the names of the native cultures or the names of the locations or their themes. It is only out of the love and respect that these teams have for their culture and places that they name their teams after them and this should not be misunderstood for the mockery. Be it the “Pittsburgh Steelers” or the “Florida Gators”, it is only the enthusiasm of the teams to represent their people and carry their spirit in the game, every time the names of the teams are hailed.

Such names of the sports teams entrust the hope and faith of the people of that location in their team members and encourages them to win over the game. This is a spirit that every human being has and it feels good when you know that your people have made it over the others. Unfortunately since many years these names have been in the news for wrong reasons. The controversies about the usage of the names like the Braves, Redskins, Indians, Seminoles and many others have been persistent since decades.

It actually lies in the people to understand the true spirit behind dubbing the teams with these names and it should be taken in the right earnest. The very thought of bringing racism in this issue itself does not make sense. “Many individuals admire the heroism and romanticism evoked by the classic Native American image, but many too view the use of mascots as offensive, demeaning, or racist” (“Wikipedia”). A sport has to be understood for what it is and trying to evolve the irrelevant controversies and connecting the dots to end up nowhere is nothing more than mere ignorance.
