The purpose of this report is to identify countries which best meet our management team’s criteria for initial targeting with our product distribution. Since the product is expected to have a high penetration rate in all countries where it is introduced, regardless of average income status of the population, and in consideration of product launching costs, our primary criteria is that a target country should have a large population base. In the interest of seizing growth opportunities, another consideration is average population growth.

This report makes recommendations for countries, taking into account the stated criteria and other relevant data. The management team researched population, in various countries of the world, and the following 10 countries have been identified as the most populous (in descending order): China, India, United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Russia, Japan (Central Intelligence Agency, 2011). Our management team found that none of the ten most populous countries are included in the list of the top ten countries for population growth.

Indeed, China is in 152nd place for population growth, while India takes 86th place. The United States is 114th; Indonesia is 111th; Brazil is 104th; Pakistan is 75th; Bangladesh is 76th; Nigeria is 59th; Russia is 223rd; and Japan is 215th (Central Intelligence Agency, 2002). The top ten countries for population growth are (in descending order): Zimbabwe, Niger, Uganda, Turks and Caicos Islands, Burundi, United Arab Emirates, Gaza Strip, Ethiopia, Western Sahara, Burkina Faso (Central Intelligence Agency, 2002).

Zimbabwe is 72nd in population; Niger is 62nd; Uganda is 36th; Turks and Caicos Islands is 209th; Burundi is 81st; United Arab Emirates is 114th; Gaza Strip is 149th; Ethiopia is 13th; Western Sahara is 170th; and Burkina Faso is 61st (Central Intelligence Agency, 2011). Considering both criteria together, the management team considers the following countries to be the most highly recommended: China, India, United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda. We arrived at our recommendations by weighting most heavily the top eight most populous countries, in line with our primary criteria.

Russia and Japan were eliminated because they were lowest on the list of 10 most populous countries, and they have extremely low population growth, the latter attended to in keeping with our secondary criteria. Ethiopia was placed on our top 10 list of recommended countries because it is the 13th most populous country and is in eighth place for population growth. Uganda was placed on our recommended list because it is 36th in population and 3rd in population growth. Narrowing further, we recommend China, India, United States and Ethiopia.

India and Ethiopia are recommended as being clearly populous and having high population growth. It is anticipated that the latter characteristic will promote opportunities for product growth.. The United States is the third most populated, has respectable population growth, is consumer-oriented, will be culturally familiar and thus easier to pilot-study and negotiate. Although China is not as competitive with population growth, it is the most populous country in the world and should be our company’s first choice in the new product distribution.

We anticipate growth opportunities, on the basis of increasing commercialization and globalization. “Measured on a purchasing power parity (PPP) basis that adjusts for price differences, China in 2010 stood as the second-largest economy in the world after the US” , and last year had a GDP growth of 10% and future growth looks good (Central Intelligence Agency). Apparently 73.6% of the population is in the primary consumer age group (15 to 64 years old), median age being 35.5 years. China’s financial stability and increasing international influence are major strengths (Michigan State University, 2010).

China ranks 79 out of 183 for ease of doing business, and 27 out of 139 for global competitiveness (Michigan State University, 2011). Out of all countries evaluated, China tops our list of those we recommend. References Central Intelligence Agency. (2002). Country Comparisons:: Population Growth Rate.
